vaccuflush question (how far can you go)

...we keep small plastic bags in the head. I hope you don't think this is gross, but we put used toilet paper in individual bags, tie them up, and put in the cockpit trash bin. ....

At first when I read this I threw up in my mouth, then I just threw up all over my keyboard, wiped it up and put the towels in plastic bags all over my desk. Wonder what my wife will say?

...yes it is absolutely GROSS. :smt021

That is just plain nasty! The system is on the boat so why not use it? Do you keep the water heater turned off so you never wear it out? Maybe the stereo stays off so the speakers are always like new? I know the microwave is never used because it would get dirty and may smell bad...

We are laughing like hyena's over here - love the responses. Thanks for the support, Ron - if there is an alternative to the marine grade, we are open to it!!

Could you elaborate on the problem you have with the Marine grade TP? Is it too coarse? too flimsy? leave behind too many pieces? unkind to inflammed hemorrhiodal tissue?

My understanding of it is that it is made very thin so it will shred up and not get stuck in the moving parts as it passes through the system. So I'm guessing it's too thin?? I can see getting annoyed about paying extra for what amounts to the cheapest-made, crappiest flimsy-a$$ toilet tissue, but to forgo use of it and opt for the plastic bag technique seems like a lot of work.

I think we need an expert to figure this one out...

Well... The head is in the shower, so there's always soap and water...

I heard that you could modify this product for humans... Maybe you could cut out a step? "Welcome aboard, life jackets are here, fire extinguishers under here, when you have to go the PooTrap is in this cabinet and when you are done discard the bag where the empty beer bottles go....right here. Everybody ready to go cruising?"

You put dog S*it in the recycling bin along with the beer bottles ??? Good grief!

ancient Romans used sponges on the ends of sticks, kept in jugs filled with salty water.

We can't stand that marine grade paper, so we keep small plastic bags in the head. I hope you don't think this is gross, but we put used toilet paper in individual bags, tie them up, and put in the cockpit trash bin.

I hope you were kidding... You should at least use a Ziploc. :smt101

We started using Scott tissue one day after running out of the marine stuff. We used it all last year with no problems. It does say Safe for RV's. It's a lot cheaper too, we get big packs of it at Costco.

I have tried the 'single sheet in a cup of water test' and it does pretty well.

As a side note, the sheets are smaller now, they used to be 4.5" wide, now they are 4.1". So you can fit more of them in a bag.

NO WAY....I was suggesting the 'strap-on' bagging system for our friend who bags the TP....why not take it to the next level?

I am full on anti-animal....in a house, on a boat, in a car....no dogs, cats, geckos, or even PIGS :smt024 for that matter...but, to each his own I suppose.

What a great thread... thank you for exposing some serious weirdness...

I've had 3 boats with vacu-flushes and not one problem or any odors. We use the toilet just as we do at home and use regular toilet paper (but try and keep the amount to a minimum). Always tell your guests the dos and don'ts of how the toilet works.
The last thing I want is the crew and guests all sitting with their legs crossed or walking around clenching their butt cheeks. That's ridiculous! Put the what in a bag?! Just when I thought I'd heard it all...
The only preventative type habit I have is to make sure there's always a decent amount of water in the tank. I add a few gallons after a pump out to keep the solids ratio down. Dilution is the solution.
Over-treating the tank is a mistake. Most treatments are oxidizers which do help with odors in the short term but they cause the solids to settle out of solution. This will eventually lead to ongoing septic odors. The solids will be difficult to get out of there once the bottom of the tank is covered.
There's no magic... do what the manual says and enjoy vacu-flush toilet technology!

... in a baggie... :smt043

I am about to remodel the head in my boat. What's the best system vacu flush or manual or electric. Also where is the best place to buy them.

You obviously have not been paying attention to this thread, you don't need all that, just one of these

OK, OK, enough already!!! I'm convinced. You all have my word, that I'll allow TP in the toilet next season. If all of you have thrown it in there, then I'm going to do the same!!!

Hell I have given mine a good workout!!! LOL

Merry Christmas to my toilet!!!!!

Sometimes I drive all the way to my boat specifically to take a crap. 4 years and no odors and no problems...

...unless you count the corn that got stuck in the vacuflush duckbills and the tampons stuck in the bottom of the pump.

And before any wise guys jump in here, the tampons are not mine.

Art, forget about it. This thread has taken on a life of its own. It's like a freight train running out of control. You're just going to have to wait it out.
