Keep in mind I own the business so I am biased. But in a Monday - Friday - 8 to 5 job. Is 2 weeks vacation 10 days or 14 days. Curious what others opinions are. I am having a debate with a new employee. My fault I didn't spell out the days - I just put 2 weeks.

But nobody better to get HR advice from - than some Sea Ray Owners.

I have worked for three different organizations as a full time employee over my last 30 years in the work force. On all three occasions, 2 weeks Vacation meant 10 working days.

Thanks - that is what I always experienced when I worked somewhere.

Another method to calculate vacation pay is to average the number of hours worked over a 52 week period and assign that as the weekly vacation pay and or days off. You work you get more. You work less, you should have worked harder.

Agree, but then again I have never found the time to use all my vacation in the first place. Always seems like the desk is heavier when I get back. :smt021

It has been so long since I've worked for somebody else I can't remember what I got. I think your first statement said it all

But in a Monday - Friday - 8 to 5 job.

Standard work week was 5 days so 2 work weeks would be 10 days.

Just my 2 cents worth.

2 weeks = 10 days
I've never heard of 2 weeks = 14 days. I think the new employee is trying to pull a fast one?

Thanks everyone. My wife said we should ask an HR/Person or an attorney. I said I would rather ask the experts at Clubsearay. Maybe I will come back here when it is employee raise time. :smt101

I knew the employee was crazy - he is the type that is always asking for something extra - it's starting to piss me off. :smt021

I think this is the most emoticons I have ever used in a post.

Thanks - You all are the best.

2 weeks = 10 working days. He is just saying 14 days because he is including the weekends.

vacation/ New X employee

I had a employee like that, and he drove my wife and I nuts for five years.
should have never kept him that long. It's hard to fire anyone after that period of time. Don't get stuck in that rut.

On the other hand I have a employee that i would give him 28 days if he wanted. He understands about being in business, not how many vacation days he gets.
Sorry, that's how I feel

so is the employee telling you that you owe him 14 paid days off?

I think your argument is he gets two weeks off. If he works 5 days/week that would be 10 days. If he works less, he would get less days off.

I think he is looking at your knew boat and saying the boss has the money!

How about the employee who wants his vacation pay before he leaves for vacation? Its his isnt it, so why cant he have it before he leaves? :smt101

I have 1 employee that is leaving to stay home with their child and another that - whose spouse is being transferred in May. So I am going to have to grin and bear it for a bit and do battles with this employee for a bit - :smt013

Otherwise there will be no time to use the new boat

I love the can I get my vacation pay now - before I take it.

do you mean before he leaves on vacation or leaves the company?

If you mean before vacation, it is to compensate for your time off which you haven't take yet.

If you mean before you leave the company I would say that depends. If you get 2 weeks vacation and you leave the company in June I would not have a problem with paying for 1 week. but if you have 2 weeks vacation and you leave in January you shouldn't get any vacation paid unless it was left over from a previous year.

With Direct Deposit it is hard for them not to get their money via ATM on vacation. But...
