I received word today that my V-Drive was going to cost more to repair than to buy another. Lots of dilemma’s here. 1st, they have not found where one is available, the manufacture states not available until July:(, but they are still checking with other suppliers or dealers.
Ok, the boat is new to me so a couple questions. Any idea what model V-drive is in a 2000 340 Sundancer? Any idea what Ratio this is?

Another member has a velvet drive, but I do not believe that is the same. Any help in determining what I have and where to find one, ratio etc would be very helpful.

Thanks for any help
Jeff

I believe the metal nameplate is mounted right on top of it. The model number will tell all with the help of google.

What caused the failure ?

It is a ZF-630V with a 1.50 to 1 not shore of down angle . Try Mack Boring in Union NJ on RT22 they are a large construction and marine engine and trans rebulders.

Having been thru a transmission failure, I can tell you that you are correct, a proper rebuild with a decent warranty will cost what a new transmission will. The reason is that it is very difficult, if not impossible to get all the metal fragments out of every nook, cranny, passage and orifice in the transmission. The labor to do the work to clean and prepare the case and internal parts for re-use makes it an expensive process. Similarly, if you do find someone selling a rebuilt transmission, was it done right or did they just replace the obviously damaged parts and slap it back together?

Try working thru your local Sea Ray dealer to find a transmission. They can buy from distributors and you cannot. Also, try the distributors in the boat building centers like South Florida.........the 630-IV is a common gear and there should be some around somewhere.

Jeff, so sorry for your troubles as I had to go through this last year with my 340. Long story short, I was told that I had to wait on a new one to come from Germany. It took about a month and a half if I remember correctly.
