Ok, so we started off trying to sleep in the aft cabin. They did not last through the 1st night. I am 6'3" and the "overhead box" made the Admiral claustrophobic. Moved to the V birth. Bought a memory foam topper and 100% better. However, removing it daily and making the bed back up nightly, is a pain. I have searched and read on here where some have replaced the foam in the cushions with memory foam. I am interested in how this is working. Thinking of trying the same with the 4" foam in the 4 lb density. Have also read and understand about removing the side bolsters would give much more potential length and width. I am very interested in any thoughts along this line.

Thanks for all advice.

I have a memory foam topper for mine and I just leave it made up the whole time. I really can't see any real use for the table in the V berth area.

Well can't help you with that :)

I used this on my v birth.

Firm foam for regular or heavy use. Lux Foam - HQ is a high quality foam suggested for seats, chairs, cushions, benches, and mattresses. Foam has a typical life of 16 years. (Lux-HQ foam is a 2.8 lb/ft3 density with a 50lb ILD)

I went from 3 to 4 inch because I can't stand it when my body hits the plywood from sinking into the foam. I found out that 3 inch of this stuff would have been fine, but with 1 inch of memory foam to soften it up would have been better. I am 6 foot 1 190 pound and I bet i don't sink in an inch or two on this stuff. I need to put this foam in my Helm Seat.

We have the fitted mattress. Beat sleep ever! Lost the use of the front berth as a dinette in our 280 but don't miss it!

Silly question, but did you cut to fit or was it cut to fit for you? I have a 4 inch memory foam top still in the box, but could return it and get a memory foam mattress and cut it, maybe. Has anyone done this?

Matt

Matt, never a silly question. This is an actual mattress, custom made to fit. Since it is almost 6" thick, the lockers and doors were modified accordingly.

Mike,

How long ago and who did you have make the mattress? My concerns are to have a proper fit. Oh, and price $$$...

That sounds nice! Thanks, I might have to try that!

Get a good deal on a memory foam mattress at Costco, Sams, or Overstock.com and cut it to fit. Cut it with the electric knife you got as a wedding present 20 years ago and never used. LOL

We did the memory foam from Overstock.com last year, cut to fit with a pair of scissors, it worked, but not the best cut. We cover the foam mattress with sheets and comforter and it looks good and sleeps well. We do occasionally feel the v-berth cushions underneath so the idea of putting the foam directly over the plywood with some extra padding sounds like a great idea.

We do have some interference with the closet doors.
