V Berth Mattress Mod '05 340

I found another option if you're as cheap as I am. I was tired of fooling around with different types of foam so I bought a brand new queen size pillow top matress, took the covering off, modified the frame and springs to the shape of the Sea Ray foam, resewed the covering to fit the new shape, and now I have a custom innerspring matress for $300. I have to admit it was a pain in the butt!

Jeff, I didn't think to about taking any pictures when I was doing it. All I did was remove the binding around the perimeter of the matress and all of the covering came right off. The frame was just a heavy gauge wire around the perimeter of the top and bottom. I re bent the heavy wire to the new shape and then removed the springs that I didn't need. I had to re sewing the covering to the new shape also and install a zipper to get it back on. It really worked out well but it was more work then I thought. I would do it again if I have to. I still think it was worth it. Thanks, Mark

Wow! I'm seriously impressed! I though i was hot $hit when i sewed up some throw pillows for the boat.

rondds, I've been playing around with sewing canvas and stuff for severals years now just to save money so the matress thing was no big deal. I did a complete camper canvas on my 370 and lots of snap in carpets for my boat and some of my friends. When I retire some day I plan on hanging out by the local marina and earn a little extra beer money with my sewing machine!
