Tubing near Sandy Hook?

Wow... The good places to tow are off limits (near the Earle ammo docks) I have only transited that area, but if I were pulling a tube I would do it in the ocean if it were calm enough because there is less boat traffic... Have you tried up river, north of the GW?

rcknetcht, what makes the area near the ammunition dock especially good for tubing? This will be my first time tubing, whatsoever. Up the Hudson sounds like a good place for tubing, though. Now, if I go on the ocean side of Sandy Hook, won't my riders get freaked out by the possibility of sharks??!

Rod, you're cracking me up man....:smt043....I think you'de be the first one I see tubing or pulling any kind of water toy in the open ocean.

I've skiied and pulled the tube on the eastern part somewhere in the middle of the hook (I don't recall exactly since it's been number years ago, but it's pretty easy to locate). Just take a look at the chart and go there. It's a nice spot to take your boat.

Have you guy's seen the color of the Water Off of the Pier? Especially since it's almost August, it's like Radioactive Green!! I'd go out the Hook if it was me, the water is nice and clear!!

Last time I was there in summer of 2007. I've launched my 240DA from Atlantic Highlands Marina. At that time the hook was fine from either side, but usually the ocean was very choppy with afternoon winds.

I used to work on the pier at Earle, and the water near the pier looks nice... But there is an area mark on charts that is restricted... I have never tubed in the ocean, only because when it was flat enough to tube, it did not have a tube with me... I would love to water ski on the ocean, that would be a blast...

It's a shame but the amount of jellyfish in the rivers and bays lately, seems the ocean has become a good option. Just need to pick your days.

I would think that sandy hook should be in much better shape in regards to jellies due to exposure to the open water, which is colder, saltier and moves a lot more than rivers and bays.
