That's still a horsechit answer by the judge. It shouldn't "depend" on anything.

Not being a lawyer, it seems reasonable to me that the judge would want to keep a trial on schedule and the message is that if we are on schedule, you can have the time to attend said event. But that decision is for a later date.

It's a pretty significant once in a life time family obligation. Should be granted as a matter of course. The trial will be on/off schedule for multiple reasons.

Yeah, ever been through voir dire? Of course not. It's boring as shit. The lawyers have trouble staying awake. Your boy fell asleep at the UN. But they're both in or near their 80s. We should have better candidates.
