Had my first issue with my 190 sport this weekend. Drove it 20 minutes out to a sandbar, stayed for about 3 hrs and then headed back for home. About 3 minutes into our trip home the high temp alarm went off. Looked at the gauge and it was at high. So I immediately backed off the gas and slowed to an idle speed. let it idle for a few minutes and the temp dropped, but as soon as I accelerated it would go back to high. If I drove at wake speed it would not get to hot, so we drove all the way home at wake speed. A 20 minute drive turned into 1 1/2 hrs. What I think may of happened is I sucked some sand into the Prop went I approached the Sandbar even tough I trimmed up the outdrive when we approached and pushed It in the rest of the way. What kind of damage you think occurred and it is a big deal to fix? Anyone else have this happen before. I will take it in to the dealership to have it looked at this week.

Usually when you suck up sand or debris the t-stat sticks open and runs cold. What year is your 190? It sou!nds like maybe the water pump impeller is bad and not making enough flow at higher rpm's. Sand can eat up an impeller pretty quick.

2013 - Only has 15 hours on it. Was the first time I ever pulled onto a Sandbar.

That would make it certainly sound like the sand was a factor in this issue, whether clogging the intakes or damaging the impeller - I would think the dealer will be able to tell fairly quickly what is going on.

If it is just the impeller it is an easy fix that won't cost you too much. Just plan on your boat being out of service for a little while since summer is the busy season for boat mechanics.

Its at the dealer now. I was off this week and was hoping to get out on the river with it. 90 out today and tomorrow. Dealership said they may get to it by the end of the week. I have prop insurance so if ends up being a big fix it will only cost $250.00.

That Isn't supposed to happen at 15 hours.

$250??? Isn't it under warranty? May get to it? If its new this year they should definitely be giving you priority since this shouldn't be happening.

You didn't suck up a bag or something? Really weird.

I don't know what I sucked up. I doubt if they consider that a warranty repair, if its not a defect on their part. But I will defiantly ask a lot of questions when they let me know what they find. But I don't know what I did to suck up any sand either if that's what happened. I will be really happy if they consider it a warranty fix and cover costs, but I'm expecting the worse.

Good news. It was just some sensor that was malfunctioning and it was giving off an false alarm. They calibrated it and its good to go. Have it home already. Didn't try it out yet but maybe will tomorrow. Hope that doesn't happen again anytime soon.

Update: took it out yesterday and same thing happened again. Don't know what the dealership repair shop did. You cant even get it up to plane and that alarm starts sounding off. Very frustrating. Taking it back today. I'm going to tell them to take it out on the river before and after repair. They are right on the river so its very easy or them to do.

So, did they replace the bad sensor? Sorry for the trouble with your new boat. Don't get discouraged, once its fixed your sure to have lots of trouble free time on the water.

Keep us posted when they figure it out.

if its anything like my boat, there are 2 seperat sensors, one for the guage, and one for the alarm. so chance of both being bad would be unusual (you said you heard the alarm, then noticed the gauge was high). I would have thought the dealer would know that (but maybe your boat uses one sensor for both).

Yesterday I watched the water temp gauge shoot up and then the alarm went off. Oil temp gauge seemed to be on the high side also. They said they calibrated the sensor? They didn't replace anything. But once that alarm goes off the engine loses power. So performance goes down hill. I thought maybe if the sensor was bad or something the boat would operate normally but the alarm would sound. I still think a intake is clogged or something. But you would think that's the first thing a mechanic would check. Not frustrated with the boat, more the dealership for not correcting the problem the first time.

Your 1st post made it sound like you never grounded the boat?? Is your engine overheated when the alarm sounds? Got an IR temp gun?

Never grounded the boat. That's the first thing I checked was the engine compartment. Everything seemed cool. Not hot at all. Checked the oil in the dipstick and that was cool. You could touch everything with the bare hand. Maybe newer boats start shutting down before they get overheated.

Update #2. Got the boat back from the dealership yesterday. It was what we all suspected. Water pump and t-stat were full of sand. Had to replace thermostat and Impeller. So it ended up being an expensive day at the sandbar. Just glad I have it back for this weekend to take it on my first trip to a lake for a weekend. May have to take it out on a quick ride to make sure its working right. The dealership said they did also, which I can tell because there is water lines on the hull. I think I'm going to stay away from the sandbars for awhile.

Glad they got it figured out for ya! Now have some fun!
