Trip to the Keys

Does anyone know what the bugs situation is like in Boca Chita Key Harbor during winter (Dec/Jan)? I've read that the mosquitos are really bad when it's warmer.

I second the Hogfish... off the beaten path, great vibe... if they are out of Hogfish (it happens), Lobster BLT is excellent too. Also, best cheesesteak south of Philly in case you need a hangover cure!

I 3rd the hogfish grill. We have been taking our catch of the day there the last couple of fishing trips. They cook it up any way you want... Just incredible open air restaurant and atmosphere....

Don't miss Hogfish and No Name Pub.

If I were going and staying at SIM, take the shuttle to KW after arrival, rent scooters and do the tourist thing to other keys. (25 miles to Big Pine Key, thousands of Key deer and http://www.nonamepub.com/) When you go down to Duval for New Years, return the scooters and take cab back.

Enjoy!

PS. If you happen to be from NJ, do not admit it while in http://www.irishkevins.com/

Alex - My boat is on its way down now - not sure how far south we'll go, but we will be there from 12/26-1/2

I'm not sure yet....I will definitely be somewhere in Fla and will update you asap...Even if we don't run the boat all the way down, we will probably come see you guys by car. I saw your Bahamas thread too, our break is the week of the 20th so we will probably miss you guys then...I want to make it to the Abacos via west end out of Lake Worth(palm beach) inlet

Thanks Robert. I just looked at the LPI thread and remembered that this is the place I wanted to stop by as well. Oh man, so many places and so little time....

The idea of going to LPI marina just went out of the window. I just spoke to them and apparently it's just a flat fee of $600 per night for my boat and $1200 for larger boats. If you think that the $ is the only kicker, nope...NO CHILDREN and no pets allowed. Now it makes sense why deers are going to the bar......We have kids with us, so got to cross it off the list, for this trip at least.

Alot of celebrities and high power CEO's go there. Big bucks for sure!

I'm living vicariously through this forum and this post in particular until such time as I can get back on the water. I was wondering how all of these arrangements and this "Trip to the Keys" is working out for everyone. Have you arrived in Stock Island? How is the rest of the trip shaping up? I'll understand if you all are too busy enjoying the trip and keys, but throw be bone here.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and I hope the New Year brings in much joy and happiness!

Our crew got to Fl yesterday. Shoving off from our home marina this morning headed down to the keys.

I think Alex has been in the keys for a few days already. Good chance our float plans may cross tonight.

Awesome, thanks for the update! I just can't wait for our next chapter in live that will put us back on the water to have these exciting trips as well. I hope all goes well and the weather cooperates with your endeavors.

Keep us all posted as time allows.

Scott,

I usually have my hands full and don't post much during our trips. But, I'll do detailed write-up once we're back.

We've met with Mark and his crew in Howk's Cay and will be heading to our final destination, Key West, where we'll meet the rest of the group.

I just saw this thread, very cool! Have a great trip folks!
And like Ron said, We need pictures!!!

Gathering up pics.

Have enjoyed a couple of evenings visiting with Alex and his wife.

Rolling out in the morning, will try to get the go pro going for leaving through the canal.

Gotta say awesome trip so far.

We left Key West today and cruised to Little Palm Island and the place lives up to the reviews here......... Simply amazing....."Fantasy Island" for sure.... Right down to the sea plane pulling up to the floating dock 4 slips from our boat to pick up some people departing the island......Unfortunately no discounts for a holiday week....
We also enjoyed a great New Years Eve dinner in Key West with Alex (Inspiration) and Mark (Football Fan)

Btw.. While washing down the boat, I had a manatee drinking the water coming out from the AC.... I put the water hose on him and I think he would have drank all day.........will post the pics once I get them off my wife's camera....

What are the odds, were cruising to Galeon in downtown KW and bump into "Retreat" on the Atlantic side.
