Trip to the Keys

Great post Alex!.... And glad we were able to be a part of it.... And don't get me started with the lobster pots! The auto pilot was useless as you could not set a course without hitting a lobster pot in less than a minute...... With all the regulations, you would think they would be able to set regulations for pot placements. These guys literally used the magenta line on the chart to set a row of pots!

Here are couple of video clips. BTW, by the time the clips get to youtube, the quality drops drastically. They're pretty good on my iphone.

Nice writeup and pics. It looks like you had a great trip even with the few hiccups like the loud music and the line around the shaft. Having been to KW this week, your photos really called out to me.

Thanks for a great writeup.

Great post Alex. You really "captured" the Keys in your words and pictures.

Meeting up with both you and Steve (and crews) greatly enhanced our trip.

Thinking that those of you who know Alex, already know that he is always ready to lend a helping hand. I want to acknowledge I learned first hand.

Our first day out, thrusters went out as we were coming in our first marina. Alex jumped in the bilge, helped me trouble shoot. Brought a lot of knowledge to diagnosing and troubleshooting.

Thank you Alex for your assistance.

Mark

Alex, this thread will be what many will look to in the future, as thoughts of making such a great trip come up! Thanks for sharing, especially any videos while you're underway, it's like going on the trip with you.

Came to the office early to get some work done. Haven't done a lick and it's been worth every minute of it. Thanks Alex.

Great pics. Pleased to hear you had a good time and a safe trip.

Just had an 1 hour phone call with Alex well,,,, all I can say is I'd love to move the boat to FLA with him next year!!! How great is it that he and Steve(Cod) had a southern CSR rendevouz in Key West? Awesome. What a great trip and great people. I Hope I'm a party to it soon!!! Great post guys thanks for taking us along.

Btw.. While washing down the boat, I had a manatee drinking the water coming out from the AC.... I put the water hose on him and I think he would have drank all day.........will post the pics once I get them off my wife's camera....

Don't get caught giving the manatees water from a hose it is illegal.

Joe, your boat is a perfect fit for trip like that, and using it as a floating condo in FL during the winter.

Thanks for reminder of new to us (snowbirds) rule. When staing in St. Augustin, a Manatee was right next to my boat, my firend suggested using the hose, but I used an "alternative".

Manatees will often drink from the boat's discharge systems down here and it is cute to see them. They really love freshwater if they can get it but if you do get caught giving them it .............

Those who recently stayed in Stock Island marina might find this news interesting.

Boaters navigating from Hawks Channel to Stock Island will find that a prominent landmark is missing. The "boat barn" at Oceanside Marina has been demolished to make way for condos, according to a KeysNews.com article:
Construction crews on Tuesday afternoon demolished the behemoth building that had the words, "Key West Oceanside Marina" painted on the roof.
The demolition was part of an ongoing redevelopment of the popular marina that has long been home to recreational, charter and commercial diving and fishing boats, as well as liveaboards and other vessels.
The $25-million redevelopment ultimately will see 80 condominium units and 15 hotel rooms distributed among nine new buildings to be constructed at Oceanside Marina, with some of those going into the blank space left by Tuesday's demolition of the boat barn, developer Pritam Singh said Wednesday...
