Twin 470s with alpha 1 stern drives
Good afternoon I'm new to the forum.
I have a 1978 srv260 twin 470s and mercruiser alpha 1 drives.

My trim pump is a single solenoid setup the pump spins up motor raise perfectly no issues but it will not go Down the motor will spin slow like it's dragging and then stop after the outdrive goes down about 2 inches then it just clicks not a bad solenoid click but just a single click when I hit the Down button..
I cleaned the connections still the same outcome if the motor goes up the solenoid and motor have to be good right??

So I'm wondering if it's a fluid problem I checked the fluid it might be a little low but not empty and there's no water contamination...

Anyone else have any comments anything will be helpful thanks in advance

the trim motor has 2 windings , the blue wire on the solenoid(up) and the green wire on the plastic connector block(down)

So you think my down side of the motor is shot do you know if them trim motors are rebuildable??

Be sure you have a good battery. Load test if in doubt.

3 brand new deep cycle batteries they got plenty of juice thanks for the input though..

I think this weekend I'm going to pull the trim motor out of the boat and tear it apart hopefully it's just got a bad connection on the brushes or something internal i will let you guys know thanks!!

Did this work ok last season and not this year when you tried it?...if so, it might be stuck valves from sitting over the winter inside the pump. Here is what I would try. I would have a buddy push down or stand on the drive while you are pushing the down button. Might be worth a try before disassembling the pump.
Good luck.

Yea I tried this already pump still spins very slow then stops even with my 230lbs on it..

I pulled the hydraulic lines off the downside and ran the motor it did the same thing

It worked 4 years ago been in storage for 4 years when I bought it i knew the previous owner and he took it out all the time offshore fishing

I had a similar problem and after many repair attempts, it turned out to be a bad connection in the in line fuse holder-took all of 30 seconds to repair once I found it. Corrosion and vibration caused it.

REALLY I never even thought about that fuse being corroded I just knew it was working cause there is power I am going to check this in the morning thanks for a little hope before I tear that pump out lol not looking forward to that

Have the same problem on my port outdrive and I refilled the pump tank and it started working again. I have a leak somewhere but it is really tight in there with the twin 470's and can't see behind the engine, so I just keep it topped off and have no problem. If I ever pull the engine I will then fix it meanwhile I will just keep the bilge cleaned up with absorbent pads.
