Has anyone had the wooden parts of a 268, 269, 250 or 270 transom replaced? Could you put a price on such a serious project?

Hi Golfman25,
I figured as much but if the boat is free what would it cost?

If you have to tear your boat apart and restructure I'm not sure you will ever recoup your cost.

I take it the boat you choose that needs this done you are going to keep for a very long time?

I personally rather have to buy new engines for a free boat than rip into its structure.

I'l take a stab at it based on my area, think in the $5000 range if all goes well and you do not need another couple thousand to go farther forward. Then you must have already accounted for the stringers and motor mounts being sound, if not keep adding.

Well I don't have a specific boat in mind at this point. I am nervous that if I find a nice boat and it surveys well, I buy it, and in a few years show itself to be rotting inside will it be 5000, 7000, 10000 to repair.
I am trying to evaluate my options.Plus it has snowed and I am bored out of my mind, ready for spring.

I had a friend that did it to his 22' with a IO and his materials were 3 sheets marine plywood and about 2 or 3 gallons of fiberglass resin plus cloth. Time for him and a helper when he needed it was probably 50 hours. So using that plug in the costs of material and labor for your area and you'll get a ball park

I rebuilt one 25 year ago on a run about with an outboard. If some is rotten, a lot is rotten...not just the transom...figure floor, stringer, plus redoing all the uphostry +++

If your doing it for fun, I think a transom would be in the $5K range. The 16' runabout was $4k 25 years ago.

You could buy a $20k boat an be ahead of the game.

Aim you sights on a 240/260/280 in the 2002 to 2008 years. There are dozens at our boat club. I have owned 3 of these that are still at our boat club and none of them have anything related to transom rot.

Winner!!!

That $20k boat will not be perfect but you can find one that is not rotten...
