I am about to install a transom mount transducer and was hoping to get some advice on the mounting location before I make a mi$take. I am planning to mount the transducer at the lower circle in the attached photo. Any further to the left (looking at the photo) will either hit the trailer bunk or be in front of the outdrive/prop. Will it be ok where I plan to mount it? Also does the location I plan to drill for the cable seem ok? Thanks for any advice.

P.S. - Yes I know I need to clean up my outdrive!

Hey Bboyg

I have one factory fitted to my 1999 180 br and it is mounted just to the left of the chine, that is to the left of your bunker. I do not think it makes any difference that it is in front of the leg as the transducer is just on the water where as the leg and prop are well below that line. The cable exits from inside the "tunnel" and runs parallel to the crease in the "tunnel".

When I had a 180 br that's the spot my transducer located and it worked great.

Blaster which spot was yours in, the spot I have circled or the spot Mark had his?

I thought that you're not supposed to mount it in line with the drive which is why I was putting it so far left.

Starboard side right of the bunk. In the lower circle in the photo.

Does anyone know what if any disadvantage there would be to put it to the left of the bunk in the photo as Mark has on his boat? The instructions say not to put it inline with the prop because the transducer could cause cavitation. Would that be too close to the prop line? I would rather put it there so the cable can be run up inside the tunnel and be less obvious but I dont want it to cause a problem. Thanks for the responses.

I thought the rule of thumb was 12" from the centerline of the prop. I'm not sure if it would make a big difference if you install just left of the bunk. I have seen them there on other boats so I'm only assuming they work.

One other thing, regardless of what side, being that close to the bunk, there's a good chance to make contact and knock it off. If you don't load the boat perfectly straight. Or even a wave could move your boat an inch or two while you're trying to load.. Can you cut a couple inches off the bunk so it's flush with the back end of zee boat? Then you have lot's of room to install.

That's a good point dutchman. I looked but the bracket for the bunk is right there anyway. Really can't cut the bunk. I keep the boat in the water all summer so I only put it on the trailer once at the end of the season. Hopefully I won't break it off. I'm thinking I'll just mount it where I put the circle but run the cable slightly sideways into the "tunnel" and into the boat so it's not very visible.

Looks like a very good spot. You basically dont want anything in front of the ducer causing turbulance.
You need a clean flow of water over the transducer. Same thing goes for the prop.
Check out the airmar flush mount transducers.

my transducer is close to where you are going to mount yours. The cable runs up to the crease, to the left and up the tunnel. Sort of a zigzag.
But next time I would run it at an angle, right into the tunnel.
When I did mine, the boat was brand new, and I was wwwwaaaayyyyy to picky. You know, drilling holes in a perfectly good boat :smt101.
Now that it's installed, in all honesty, I don't even notice any more.
