well,I trudges through the snow to my '81 sundancer in the marina storage area, checked on snow build up and dreamed of putting it back in the water. While i was there i pulled off the prop to check the size. It is a 15/16 pitch 4-blade,motor does not rev past 4100,anyone know if it is the wrong prop to use with this boat?'81 sundancer,5.7,4 barrel,alpha-1 drive.:smt100

I just posted this to your other thread:

Just a note on props:

Even purchasing a new prop does not always get you the optimum performance.
Another option if your current prop is in good condition: specialized prop shops can recondition, balance and modify them to best fit your application. Especially if it is stainless. From our racing experience pitches can be slightly adjusted and diameters can be cut back to correct your RPM range.

Being on the low side of Wide Open Throttle RPM range this may be an option for you.

There are many shops out there - we personally worked with Hydromotive Engineering out of Twinsburg, Ohio http://www.hydromotive.com for the new stuff. They are geared more toward sport and performance boats.

Michigan Wheel out of Grand Rapids is another geared more toward a wider range of boats http://www.miwheel.com/

An excellent place we also used for modifications was Henry H. Smith & Company in Algonac, MI 810-794-4222 http://www.henrysmith.com/index.html
I'm sure they can get you pointed in the right direction.

Maybe this helps

Thanks for info,i forgot to say it is an aluminum prop.,it has a good size ding in one of the blades as i only use this boat on the mississippi and sometimes hit shallows quick up here in mn.

Sounds like time for a new one.

As far as material and the conditions you run in I personally would stay with aluminum.
If you do unfortunately hit something hard they tend to take the damage instead of the inside of your lower unit. Less costly in the long run.

Just my thoughts

I would recommend getting your current prop fixed, first.
Then run the boat and check your RPM's and performance again. Go from there. If performance/RPM's then warrant a different size wheel, the one you just fixed becomes your spare.

Thanks for the input,i will see if it can be repaired, should be cheaper than a new one.and yes,i plan on keeping alum.props on this boat, just hope this prop size is good for this boat. cant wait till spring:smt001
