Has anyone added this to a 230br? If so did you go out the back or the sides?
I want to add this and really want it to come out the back but I don't know if this is possible
Thanks for any info.

it's really loud. Why did you want to do it? My 1999-230OV was plenty loud for a long cruise at 30-35MPH and I didn't have it. "Searide" may be able to help you decide too.
it may sound cool, but may get on your nerves too.?

Hoosier,

I agree with Todd. I have ridden on several 240 Sundecks and a 260 Sundeck with switchable exhaust and I did not care for it even in quiet mode and these were boats were powered by either a 350 Mag or 6.2 MX. Then again I turned 40 last year, so I may be an old fart.

Anyway I purchased my 230 new in 1999. The other boat I was looking at was a 230 Bowrider Select. This was the upscale model with a stainless w/s frame, electric engine hatch, upgraded interior, and unique hull colors/graphics. The one I looked at also had a very nice stereo and a 385 HP 454 Magnum with switchable exhaust. As I recall it was at least $15,000 more than my boat. Beautiful boat though. So I saved the bucks and bought my Signature. To answer your question the exhaust ports were located outboard of the drive inset, inside of the lifting eyes below the rubrail and just below the molded sheer line (see my sig. pic. for a general idea). I have also seen a 230 BR with a 7.4 MPI/310 HP with the ports in the same location.

The exhaust note is cool for a while and then you'll wish you could hear your stereo or a conversation in the cockpit instead. It's also loud for others around you and can mask other noises you may need to hear. I have a slight hearing loss that corresponds with the frequency at cruise or my wife's voice, I can't remember. Coincidence?

I seem to recall some issues with the flexing between the engine and the outlets? I'm not that familiar with them, but the flexing was causing cracks or maybe it was the heat?

The HP gain is not noticeable and not worth the additional noise in my book. But then again, maybe I'm an old fart too since I'm rapidly approaching, well, let's just leave it at "old"!

I am with the other folks here on a quiter boat. I have a motorcycle and have about the loudest after market exhaust on it for those times I want to hear a rumble. The difference being is that I am usually on the motorcycle by myself and don't need to hear anyone else speak.

Well since everybody else is giving you their option I'll hold off, but I must be getting old too. (Grin) Why do you want to add it??? What value will it add to the boat??? With it coming up on a 10 year old boat are you having to re-power it or something? I heard some talk about baning it on some of the lakes do to the noise. Not sure if they would ever be able to do it, but who know.

I'm only 38, and even I find loud boats to be annoying as heck.

As someone who grew up on a river, and who still visits his parents on the river often, to hear one of those boats go by is annoying. It ruins the experience for everyone around them.

If you get a corsa exhaust, I am going to put a banana in the tailpipe.

I don't find it annoying and think it is pretty cool to see on someone else's boat. But when I was 17 I told my dad I wanted to change my Mustang to a stick and change the color from white to red. He looked at me with a straight face and said I needed to go find a red one with a stick if that is what I wanted. So I did and actually talked him into letting me keep both for about a year and a half but it ended up when it was time to sell one, the coolness of the red / stick was gone and I sold the red one.

The point of the story, if you want a boat with exhaust you may be better to look for a boat that has it rather than investing the money into adding it to your boat when I doubt you will get the return out of it and prevent running into problems from the installation. Just my opinion...

But what about it is so cool? The noise?

It does almost nothing for performance, and the only result is it echoes in a river valley or terminates conversation in the boat and the restaurant adjacent to the marina or on the boat ramp.

Just curious, the fascination with it being loud. No one can ever give me a real viable reason.

Hey Hoosier. Just for the record, I don't believe any 230 owner or his boat could possibly be regarded as loud, obnoxious, annoying and etc.

I have it on my 260. Merc requires it with BIII's and 502's (Switchable that is). When you are running at high rpm for extended intervals, you open it to keep the EGT's down. With a 502 and even 454's there is a very slight increase in top end performance with it open. As far as noise, even closed there is a slight leak that is definitely noticeable, but tame at idle speeds. At cruise there is no perceptible noise difference when closed.

I don't like to listen to open exhaust all day either, but come on, don't you love the sound of an unmuffled big block at least sometimes?

Yeah, that is pretty much it. Going back to my days of Mustang, it is the same reason everyone that owns one has put Flowmasters on them. It just sounds cool. I know we have alot of Camero guys on here but there is no other car in my opinion that has that low deep sound of a Mustang coming down the street even at idle. Now the difference is the new sports cars with what I call motorcyle exhaust (Whinning sound) on them...that is not cool, there is a difference. :smt101

No, and I don't like the "go fast" guys either....only exception is you. (our "go fast" Sea Ray guy)

I get it in cars, just not boats.

I had an 85 gt, with a 351, and it was a bit loud, just not open. It was fun, and it meant I am ready to race an IROC anytime, even a vette.

On a lake or river, meh.

Whinning sound? I take offense... you haven't heard my motorcycle! Now if you are talking about rice burners and the Kazoo exhaust, I know what you are talking about.

Funny on the Kazoo exhaust, but the other one is what I consider the Kazoo exhaust... kinda sounds like my weed whacker... BTW, if you ever want to play a trick on a friend... stick this in their exhaust and it really can't be seen...

http://www.sillyjokes.co.uk/p-jokes/surprise/exhaust-whistle.html and click on the sound sample... can be found locally, but this site is the only one I could find that had the sample.

That's really contemptible, malicious, and utterly underhanded. What kind of friend are you? Geez....

And I LOVE it!
