Thoughts on putting snap-in carpet on the swim platform

Finally got my wife up to the boat to check it out. Really wanted to like it and avoid the hassles but neither of us can live with it as we're pretty particular with the boat. I'm hopeful the vendor will recognize that the sample wasn't representative and will let us return it. We'll see.

Bart...I think I have to agree. I saw several boat this year the the Tulsa boat show with this type of cockpit carpet, but I don't recall is looking "shiney".

I think the overwhelming consensus is that something isn't right. If you can, return it and start over m

I'll concur w the general consensus. I wouldn't put it on my boat. It looks cheap

I just heard back from the vendor. They'll accept the carpet back with a 10% restocking fee. I feel this is very fair considering the subjective nature of the defect.

Now I need to decide whether to go with the regular Berber that this boat typically has or upgrade to something else.

Thank you to all of you who gave your input.

Just a suggestion, we got rid of the Berber which stays sopping wet for days. And opted for Aquamat from Corinthian. Dries faster looks better, and new type of backing. 10% off CSR members. Just sayin

We did it a couple years back. It's Corinthian also. Top notch quality and customer service.

For your swim platform, as many mentioned, I would recommend SeaDek. I installed the faux teak on my small platform and it looks and feels great. It was easy to install.

Also, it may not be a big deal to you, but I hate walking on snaps when my carpet isn't in the cockpit. I wouldn't care for walking on them when the carpet isn't on a swim platform either.

Carpet is returned and credit issued. I take my hat off to the vendor as they were top-notch to work with and I'd use them again without hesitation if I was going down the carpet route.

So on to the next attempt.

I think we're going to bite the bullet and put down SeaDek through out the cockpit and swim platform. A lot more money but I'm hoping its worth it. We looked at a boat last weekend that had it and liked the look and texture. They say that even the the faux teak pattern doesn't get too hot in the sun. We'll see.

Here's a picture of a 420/44DA that has it. It has the extended platform that I don't have.

A quick note regarding the removal of the black carpet backing from the cockpit floor. Mine was pretty deteriorated and embedded into the non-slip surface. I originally tried cleaning with a stiff brush and Simple Green. Didn't do all that much.

Here a before pic of the deck AFTER I'd already tried cleaning with the Simple Green.

Here's the product I used to clean it off. I bought it from O'Reilly's Auto Store

And the AFTER Picture taken about an hour after the BEFORE pic and now perfect

Glad you're getting it sorted out. A 10% penalty to get out of a product you're not satisfied with will be a non-issue when the project is completed.

Those pictures look fantastic.

Where did you find that stuff?

He was recommended to a friend of mine who then gave me the information when I was asking about what he thought of my new carpet. I'll PM you his info since I doubt he's a board sponsor and I'm not sure we're supposed to post non-sponsors.

I meant the purple power

One other note. WEAR GLOVES! I know that seems obvious to most of you (and my wife) but I didn't and my hands have taken a bit of beating. Add that to my sunburn and bashed head on the companion way door and I damn near finished myself off this weekend.

Ok, to follow up on what I've done. Today I had SeaDek installed in the cockpit and on the swim platform. I haven't seen it myself but the installer sent me this pic and from what I can tell it looks GREAT!
