This summers gas prices....

It can’t be that. Keystone XL was never even constructed, so it can not conceivably have any material effect on either oil supply or energy independence.
Also, can’t be Keystone I, II, or III, which have been operational since 2010, 2011, and 2016, respectively.

Like I said, I havent heard of any pipelines being shut down.
It's not just one thing, but the overall war on fossile fuels Old Joe has begun. When you take down the Keystone pipeline, eliminate oil leases, etc. your negatively reflecting the outlook for oil production. If oil production will be constrained in the future (plus an increase in current demand), prices start to go up.

When Covid started a lot of uneducated stupid people went out and bought boats. Our waterways got dangerously crowded. It affected our Summer because we would only go out on weekdays to be safe.

I'm a boatman and will go out no matter what the cost. My hope is that gas goes to $10.00 a gallon so all the idiots stay home.

Did you really have to explain it?….. some people need to think for themselves eventually

Is there an echo in here? I believe I said the same in#14.

Not my original comment, but I'll respond anyway.

YES, it NEEDS to be explained. Why? Because there are just too many people that don't know HOW to think for themselves. I mean, give me a break. With farcebook, who has time for anything else?

Until their approved MSM talking heads say it, they won't believe it...

Not to mention the 10's of thousands of people that lost their jobs. Add in his lavish spending and we are now where we are with a crumbling economy (highest inflation in 40 years)

I can't speak for Force M...but what I think he was trying to say was it isn't the pipeline driving gas prices....it is other factors. Ones like pointed out above, less drilling, leases, fear from anti-oil administration, etc.

In addition to overall inflation which has trickle down on everything we purchase. Even unemployment and having to pay more/bonuses to hire labor.

It all factors in. Pipeline...not a big player in my mind. I'm all for the safer Pipeline than trucks and trains...just don't think it has much influence on what we're seeing today.

Just my 2 teaspoons of gas.

If you need to pick a root cause, its the higher and rising cost of crude oil. So, what's the cost of that? Not a single thing. Keystone shutdown (OK semantics - cancellation), halting of US oil production, supply vs. demand thing, shortage of truck drivers, inflation, etc. In other words, all the policies that have been instituted in the last year.

We used to be dependent on foreign oil - remember the energy crisis of 1974, 1980...

Last year we were energy independent and even EXPORTED oil. We have taken a big step backward. I wonder why?

I believe we just said practically the same thing.

So I spend $3300.00 for my slip, I spend $4,000 for haul out, winterization preventative maintenance and re-commissioning. I spend about another $1200.00 in personnel property tax and $800.00 in insurance. We spend about $500.00 per month in fuel for the three peak months. and about another $1,000 for the three slower months. Fuel is such a small part of the entire picture.

I pay more in transient slips and golf cart rentals in the summer then fuel by a long shot

I always tell people that bitch about how much fuel costs at the dock, fuel is the cheapest part of owning a boat. If you don’t think you can justify the cost of fuel, sell the boat and take up tennis….

It's funny the different responses. I think fuel is actually my biggest single expense. (Not including refit stuff)

I had a very slow boating year in 2021 which didn't start until late July and ended November 14th and I still think I averaged 11 gallons per hour at 110 hours, not including generator burn.

I wound up spending a considerable amount of money for a bottom job and an outdrive refinish that I would have done myself if I was not in a rental home right now, so that was hurt a little bit but usually fuel would be my biggest single expense by far.

Last year we were right about 194 hours if memory serves without checking the log. Still a little slow for us, 300 used to be about my average and I've done a few that hit over 500. 11 gallons per hour at 5 bucks a gallon is a pretty big chunk. Add in the fact that I think I was just shy of 600 hours on the generator for season 1, that's probably an additional 300 gallons +/- 25

I'm still thinking about a twin outboard center console so fuel is not the motivation for making a change.
