It's looking more and more like this summer is going to be spent at the docks and not enjoying as much time on the water especially if we hit the 5.XX plus a gallon. Am I'm the only one here thinking this?

I’m about ready to just get out entirely at this point with what the cost of everything else is doing. Gas prices aren’t much of a concern though

For me, Fuel is a relatively small portion of the annual cost for the boat. It will hurt more to fill the 500gal tanks but it won’t keep me from using the boat.

What isn't going to cost more this summer? Yes, there will be even more dock queens with increased costs but that's been the case for the last few seasons. Just do what you can with your budget. Maybe shorter trips and more time at anchor if time at the dock isn't your thing?

I’m hopping some boats hit the market.
I've got a buddy who is hoping for the same thing. There are very few boats (local) for sale around here and even fewer big tailorable ones. He's looking for a trailer boat because there are no slips to rent/ lease either. And yes, lake gas is part of boating when you can't stop at Costco or Safeway on the way to the lake. I found that we tend to do more cocktail cruising when the fuel prices go up.

I said when Biden was elected we would be paying $7/gallon. Go back and look at my posts. That said, I paid 4.59 last summer.

I am stepping up this year with a 340 sda under contract. This will be double the fuel usage from my 270 that sold. I figure life is short and I’m not going to wait any longer so I feel, more fuel, higher price, so be it, I’m going boating!!

Here's a different way of looking at it.

It's how I look at all things boating.

Stop looking at the TOTAL cost.

Thats where you'd be ANYWAY.

Consider only THE DIFFERENCE !

So if fuel was $3 and is now $5 more per gallon the DIFFERENCE is $2/gallon.

It's NOT about the total, you'd be at $3 anyway.

Although not related, I would also say that upgrading to the Yanmar diesels 15 years ago in my Trojan doubled my fuel economy and range AND increased my cruise sweet spot from 15 kts to 22 kts. Plus off road diesel is cheaper than gas.

The new to me 450DA will burn a bit more fuel per mile, but again, for me I can easily justify this by looking at the DIFFERENCE as opposed to the total cost.

BEST !

I don't own a boat to save money or as an investment. I use mine year round with the exception of down time for maintenance. Love em and use them, or just sell it and go hiking on your weekends.

Great way to look at it and I agree 100%.

As most have said we paid $4.29 a gallon last season so I’m betting it will be $5-$5.50 this season. Again this is a small expense in the grand scheme of owning the boat, but understand most have a budget. That’s why I pick up extra shifts at the station during the winter, enjoy the boat!!!!!
