When is the best time to sell boats. I just bough my boat last year with 86 hours and after using it last spring, summer and a little fall, putting less than 20 hours on the boat Not sure if Jacksonville, FL is idea for a boat with all the different weather conditions from lightening and a serious rainy season, and now since winter has arrived it has been in the mid 20 temps. Does 19K seem to low for a 03 Sundeck with Bravo III engine, with less than 100 hours, full stereo with ipod connection and Garmin 545 navigation.. Any help would be appreciated in this matter.

There is a guy locally who has had his '05 240SD w/slip advertised for about a year in our area. He had been at $39,900 for quite a while and just recently dropped the price to $29,900.

Best time to sell the boat is when someone wants to buy it :smt043

IMHO - Winter is not the best time to sell unless you can run the ad right after your local boat show. You can hit a short window with buyers that get the boating bug at the boat show.

Make sense! I'll wait until, I guess Spring, when the boat bugs hits.

craigslist.com run an ad in their start now it's free so why not... but yeah spring is more realistic but you never know... income tax refund time is always good for selling stuff... i'm in Jax too... Bought my 180 off craigslist... right at the end of the season so it does happen.. i would doubt anyones buying this week with the temps but after friday it's always possable... The other thing is be realistic on your price... just because 20 other people want a million bucks for theirs doesn't mean anyone's gonna pay that... that was the biggest bunch of BS with buying my boat... people thought their wore out stained up POS's were made of gold... in this econemy you've gotta give a good deal for someone to want to buy... otherwise they'll find someone else to buy from who will... I watched 15 identical boats to mine listed for around 10-12k I paid 4500 mine got sold, all the rest are still for sale... so while it's a hard thing to swallow knowing what it's really worth thats what it'll take to actually sell it... if you would like to send me a PM I can run the numbers for you from a dealers NADA and give you a realistic pricing range... just don't choke when you read it...

Boats are purely speculative in value, the value to the owner, and the value to the buyer. Hopefully somewhere in the middle you meet. But just like "User" said there are folks out there that have a false sense of over value and you just can't talk reason to them.

But I might remind you since you are in Jacksonville there is one of the largest on the water boat shows there and it might be a good idea to have it in the paper around that time (I believe in April) so you get some exposure. Good luck.

This may not come off as too credible being my first post but...

I registered as I anticipate being on here ALOT shortly. I've been searching diligently for a 210 or 220 sundeck. Used due to affordability and 2001-2003 seems to be my sweet spot.

I can tell you that right now there are very little on the market in this range for that year, and if they are they're west coast of far northeast. I'm in Atlanta and that's just too far to drive. I've searched boattrader, craigslist, yachtworld all over the country.

You're 19k range sounds compelling with those low hours for that year. . I'm noticing lower prices in Florida, is that because of the saltwater? Perhaps I could be educated on this and may even be willing to talk sales. And maybe that's a question... would a boat such as yours with low hours and use coming out of salt into fresh really be that big a deal? I sure don't understand the price differential here.

As others said it probably couldn't hurt to put on craigs. You have the ability to screen or not even reply if you'd like. And rather than update price up or down often, which is apparent if you search alot and comes across as easy to haggle, stick to it a couple months... perhaps into your sweetspot timeframe. I think Craigs listing history only goes back about 2 months. You can even remove your post quite easily.

Might be helpful to research comparables too. Google sea ray sundeck 220 for sale and you'll see what I'm talking about in FL.

Good luck. Sorry for the long wind.

It might help if you could put the correct info. about your boat in your ad. Bravo III is the outdrive type.

It sounds like you have a 5.0 MPI w/ 260 HP?

Does your boat come with a trailer?

I would strip off the Garmin and sell it seperate.

What type engine and HP? Has it been used only in freshwater or also in saltwater? Can you post some pictures? I might be interested if the price is right.

You do realize that this is a year old thread don't you?
The OP has not been on the board for months.

Cripes that's what you get for a first post. Dam google. 1-06 sure looked like a couple weeks back. Proves Sea Ray's hold their value if a couple of us interested at 19k a year later!

We paid 21,500 for a 2003 240 SD last April. 19 K seems to be a good starting point. If you put a Full Camper package on it you will be able to use it more in cooler or wet conditions. You could always move further south :)
