Haven't experienced any problem (yet), but wondering about shore power solenoid(s) mounted in the void behind control panel. Is there a contingency work around for a potential solenoid failure? Carry spare? Not easy to get to I'm afraid too.

So I am not tracking any solenoids for shore power, just a circuit breaker. Not too hard to get too, pull the TV and you can get to the whole panel without pulling, but you can pull the panel as well.

Actuating the panel breaker for shore or genny power sounds like a solenoid then actuates. It sounds briefly like a small motor, then a thump, as if engaging. Haven't ever had a problem, thought it to be a solenoid.

Mine does not make that noise. Interesting.

Thanks guys. I'll peer at my parts manual, see if I can find an actuator or solenoid. Kind of a whir sound as if something is powering up rotating, low to higher pitch, then a thump, as if upon engagement of something locking in place, followed by a wind down in pitch of the whirring sound. Timing is about 10 seconds from flipping on shore power to end of sound.

Boooo for the middle of summer.

Already have the trim tab actuators off and should have them done before mid-week.

The yard is doing cutlass bearings, some gelcoat work, and maybe a lower hull buff and polish.

After 17 months in the water, the bottom looks okay. Not hardly any growth at all except for some nooks and crannies.

Contemplating a bottom job while I am out though as we have lost some here and there.

I've been using a Ft. Myers based company to do my monthly scraping/zincs

They provide a video (on request) of the results.

PM me if you want the contact info

Has anyone had luck matching the wood color(plastic) for instrument panels ?

Hi Bill,

Welcome!

Flounder Pounder Marine seems to be the go-to for this. They don't have 450 EB stuff hanging around since we are pretty niche, but they do custom stuff that is the exact match.

I had my water alarm go off this weekend next to my hot water heater. I believe the old Atwood is original to the boat. Unlike a home unit, the heater is still working and we were able to heat water throughout the trip, it just seems to be leaking from the bottom, slowly. I had water next to the heater and also in the bilge with the pump under the third stateroom top step. Has anyone else here replaced the water heater on their 450? Or has anyone had a leak in this location and found water in the third stateroom bilge?

The odd thing about the possible leak, is that the fresh water pump is not cycling (or at least I haven't noticed) which it should to refill a leaking water heater. I shut the pump off and vacuumed out the water. I am thinking I should try to drain the Atwood tank completely to see if water comes back. I am actually hoping it is a bad heater and not that the water is coming from another source. o_O

Mine was new at purchase.

Odd that the pump isn't cycling. I had been getting water up there, but I was from a leaky raw water manifold for the A/C units. That manifold had a plastic fitting go soft. That manifold is is under the aft stateroom on our boat. The water migrated it's way up to the water heater from that bilge.

Haven't had a hot water tank leak...yet. mine is Seaward S-1150E-W. Seaward is now owned by Whale Pumps. Had the info because I was looking to reduce the temp. Found out by email exchange it's preset at 120°F by factory to keep no bacteria, non adjustable.

I have replaced mine twice due to leaks in that floor compartment. I now have 2 water alarms down there now for early warning. My cold water inlet will start to drip every year or two. i just replace the pipe and fitting and all good. i need a better/long term fix. i think the heating/cooling of the plastic fitting is what is causing leaks over time. Anyone had this issue?

As for water in the bilge under the aft cabin stairs, there are 3 ways water can get in there (at least on my boat), one if the overflow hose from the main shower/sink sump box. If the pump fails in it, it will overflow into the aft bilge. Another way is from the over pressure relief valve on the water heater. You will see a hose going from it aft. The other was, as mentioned, is if the AC seawater manifold above starts to leak.

A leak from the bottom of the tank itself is unlikely unless the water heater has been sitting in water for some time. Ck all your fittings, they can leak and the water routes inside the water heater housing and leaks out the bottom.

As for not noticing the pumps cycle on, the accumulator tank may be masking that. It might be a slow leak and other uses of the fresh water (sinks, toilets) might get used and recharge the accumulator tank and continue to drip water in that area without notice

You could put a shut off valve on the cold water inlet on the heater to aid in troubleshooting.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

Where is the accumulator, I don't have one of those?

No problems with my water heater, but I've had to replace the Tee's on the bulkhead ahead of the sump tank. Water alarm tripped both times, but my pump was cycling also, so I knew I had a leak somewhere. Couldn't find the right size fittings locally so I went online. I've had good luck with this company. Prompt shipping and wide selection.
