The future of EVs? Maybe not so bad?

You guys should move to the Peoples Republic of Newsom. My power bill at my California house for July was just over $1K. For the month. The best part is we have been at our place in Oregon (where my July electric bill was $61.00) for the past three months. And they said I used more power this July than last July. All while not being at home. This is lunacy here.
My son moved to Santa Maria (from Maryland) June 2019. Makes a very good salary. Loves the weather.
He is in process of moving to Tempe Arizona. Had 2 job offers competing companies fighting over him.
He cannot afford California any more. Rent, gas, everything is way too expensive. It’s nuts out there.

I recently bought a Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor. Saves a ton on gas and I have a charger at home. I drive 80 miles a day roundtrip for work. Every morning I am fully charged for the day. I hate driving my ICE vehicles now. Will not buy another ICE vehicle. I also regularly drive to Chattanooga from Nashville and usually do not have to stop, but if I do it is at superchargers and is 20 minutes tops. I am not doing this to be environmentally friendly, I did it for the thrill of the drive, the tech in the car, and not having to pay high gas prices. If it happens to help the environment, then that is just a bonus.

Pirate Lady...I said I did not do it to help the environment. I did it because I liked the car and the convenience. Car is utility boating is for pleasure. My boat burns a lot of gas per mile. I have to drive my car to work. I can choose how I use my boat and with high gas prices this year it has been a lot of 2 mile trips to the local anchorage and back to the marina so I am not using my generator in favor of shore power, where as before I did many 30 to 40 mile trips.+

Also... if they made electric boats that could fit my needs, I would be interested as maintenance tends to be easier. However, boats have not caught up to cars, so I will continue to use my twin 7.4l gassers until I feel a switch would be beneficial to me.

This is fake. That battery is a $7000 battery and can be changed in your garage.
I would not be surprised if the estimate was fake but so is the $7000 to replace a battery.
Don't Know about that estimate either but I am in the auto biz so I ran that vin and it looks like that vehicle takes 3 batteries (#'s 12, 18 & 22) and depending on availability that estimate may not be that far off.

Suits you fine. 80 miles and a garage to charge it in. Now do my kid. His car is parked a block away in the city.

I’m going to do the opposite. I drive 20 miles each day and am looking for a hemi jeep. I need the vibration. :)

Here is my 1970 Olds W-31. The W-31 was the little brother small block version of the W-30. 350 with 325HP. 1352 of them made in 1970. Mine had the factory M21 close ratio 4 speed, 3.91 12 bolt posi and all of the original parts. I bought it from the original owner in 1988 for $700 (not running) and sold it 3 or 4 years later for $10,000.

I still wonder about the range of EVs. Was at the Audi dealer the other day and was told the range numbers are test results on cars with light loads, AC off along with all other electrical consuming options turned off, and the miles driven are on mostly flat roads. Here in the Midwest we need heat and ac during the year, and rush hour in snow can really dial down the range of EVs as you sit on a cold snowy road.

First off that is an internet sale price, not shipped. Nowhere near what a dealership will charge a consumer. That $7000 is actually $9100 plus shipping, dealer markup, installation, disposal fees.

Yep, that estimate is looking close…
