The future of EVs? Maybe not so bad?

The issue is, rather than setting the stage so capitalism can execute a profitable transition to alternative energy transportation, the current brand of US Gov is flexing the economy (driving higher oil pricing) to force the US to alternative energy. Undeniably, it will hurt the middle- and low-income folks the worst. It's odd but that is what the current administration is most "concerned" about; At least they say that..

What the current administration is most interested in is lining their pockets with insider trading money. You know, things like investing in EV companies right before announcing the federal government is going to all electric vehicles.

Doesn’t this negatively impact their voter base relatively more? And if that is the case, doesn’t it stand to reason that they will lose voters and republicans will gain office again in two years and nix this approach?

No it doesn’t, the poorer they can make their base the more dependent upon government they are.

Speaking of keeping binders on: Model 3 is 2 seconds faster in a 1/4 mile than the ‘69 corvette. The model s is 3 seconds faster.

Cash for clunkers did actually annoy me. I used to do a lot of toying around with beater cars and even raced in a low buck racing series. Which was considerably more difficult after that bullshit. But maybe when Biden comes for your e350 in 2035, he’ll throw you a check to soften the pain.

I also think cash for a clunkers was a slap in the face for the democrat’s voter base. That was a huge corporate money grab pushed by the dems.

The 1969 Corvette ZL-1 was 10.6 seconds street from the dealership.

The ZL-1 was a limited production - like 10. And, in factory trim and tires more like 12.6 seconds. Not even the Yenko Camaro's were in the low 11's. 10's were simply unheard of numbers for production cars. I have a Red Eye Hellcat and this car will stomp, I mean embarrass by car lengths, any factory car of the past muscle car era. I also have a 1970 Hemi Cuda and it doesn't hold a candle to the Red Eye, not even close, and long ago a 440-6 Pack 1971 Challenger which again pales to today's muscle cars.
Sorry but I was there and drag racing in the early 70's. Actually, I'm still racing today but road courses.

I didn’t realize that the stock Model S Plaid was a 9.x second car in the 1/4 mile. That’s ludicrous!

So here is the question - why not is there EV's in race classes burning dino fuel? Other than the limited engine use in Drag Racing....
The answer is that battery technology simply doesn't have the energy density - yet....

I agree with that. And it's kind of supported by the fact that Production cars are nearly as fast as race cars. I've seen a few articles on motors that should be able to complete. So the hold up is either the batteries or the controllers.

Not necessarily true, the biggest impediment would be rules. Almost every organized race has them and most do not mix classes of cars. I have a buddy who is a regional director for SCCA and is chairing a committee to put together a set of rules that will allow the creation of an EV class. A lot has to go into it beyond just the car tech as you have a great deal of safety related things as well. When the committee is done they are looking at 3 classes of cars to begin with. A stock class, a limited prep and a fully modified class. This should cover both road course and their solo class (single car parking lot course events).

It’s completely in context. Any receptacle is a charge port. That’s what I’m trying to point out.
It's not in context. The business man taking a 3 hour drive to meet a client has to stop to charge his car. I have yet to see a parking meter with an outlet on it? So where will this guy charge his car? My house? I guess that could be a new business model...AirCP (Air Charging Port...lol)

New York state ,and probably many others, have rebate money available if you install a publicly accessible charging station at you business. People making their home chargers available to others (for profit)can’t be far behind.

@jmauld must work in an office. Spend a week in the field and your view on EVs will likely change.

I just scrolled through a video of the F150 Lightening Platinum endurance testing. Didn't even make it 260 miles. Wow. My '19 Ram could do 600+ miles on a tank.... man I miss that truck!

Hampstead is a bit of a dead zone. How quiet is that area? Do they enforce the noise ordinances? I have had about as much as I can take from the noise in Carolina Beach.
We have been here for about 20 yrs. This area is exploding, not the small village it was. Still a quiet town, traffic is a nightmare, probably as bad as Carolina Beach. Hwy 17 has way more traffic than I-40 between I-95 and Wilmington.

Can you show me this route where there is 180 miles with no charger. You said yourself there was a charger within 20 miles of you.

* and again, I’m not saying EVs are for everyone. You guys just insist on nitpicking everything and bringing up these edge cases.

Maybe you should stick with ICE cars until Biden knocks on your door and takes it away.

yes, I have an office job and an EV works well for my job.

It’s your decision to stick with ICE as long as you want.

Is it really anyone's decision? The current admin is doing everything they can to transition people as fast as they can to an EV....

Remember...just a few months ago you were an evil ICE driver @jmauld...and IIRC you still have many ICE vehicles....

There’s the thing. You simply can’t just go buy an EV. That’s the major hole in your conspiracy theory. EVs were being sold faster than they could be produced before the spike in gas prices. If this theory is correct then whoever implemented it is a complete and total fuck up and is putting their pawniticians careers in jeopardy for no reason.

Seriously you can’t even get on the order list for a f150 at the moment.

BTW the current F150 Lightning is an ICE based chassis that has been converted to EV. The next generation is only a couple years out and will be built from the ground up as an EV on a dedicated chassis. Probably best to wait for that one.
