I went to the boat this week to find 3 DEAD batteries & 1 bad starter.

I was a DOCK MARY all weekend !!!. :smt089
I guess 3yrs with no breakdowns I shouldn't be pi$$ed but I am.
I came home early because finding parts on this weekend is like finding hens teeth !!!. :smt013
So heres my plan : 2 new starters 2 new alternators 3 new batteries 2 new water pumps. :thumbsup:

Every part on my engines are original so I'll replace the easy stuff first !!.

I'm with you Brother. Had a similar weekend, first time for a breakdown in 7 years

We also came home early.

I have already found a new alternator and will have it replaced this week.
 
You're not alone ! I got a short cruise in Saturday & stayed over on the boat Sat night. I pulled it out Sunday afternoon with gear oil in the bilge :smt013
 
You won't hear me bragging anymore !!. I found all the parts I need. :smt001
But I can't put my hands on them until Wednesday . :smt021
If I owned a parts store I'd be open every holiday !!
They would make a killing in sales $$$$$. :smt001

Sux Wayne, sorry to hear. Was a nice weekend to hang out at the marina though. By the way, thanks for the nickle you attached to my fishin pole, lol:grin:

I would'nt feel too bad. I've been without a boat for 2 weeks now waiting for shafts, props and an insurance settlement. Don't know if I will be able to have the boat for next weekend.:smt089
 
My first problem too... one super hot alternator and a 'too hot' smell coming from the engine bay. Heading out with a volt meter and load tester today... :(
 
What is it with alternators? I just had to replace the one on my starboard engine as well...
 
Wayne , what brand batteries did you buy???
Mantinence free ??? Sea volt i have from west marine, came with the boat
 
These parts could not have all gone at once Wayne. You must be just changing everything out all at once because you have too much money hidden under your mattress, right?? Give us some history here Wayne. What actually happened to incite you to go postal on your engines?

My boat wouldn't start all weekend. :smt021. So if one starter went the other one can't be to far behind.
The starters & alternators & water pumps are 23yrs old. :wow:
So, Just to be on the safe side of things I'm replacing everything

As for paying for the parts thats why I do snowplowing in the winter.
That money goes into the boating bank fund. :thumbsup:

No he's not !!, I'm not paying $70 per hour for him to do the easy stuff. :wow:.
My friend Shane & I are doing it. :smt001. Well mostly Shane. :smt043
 
Now the next thing is !!!, If you would to teach me how to change the water impellers in the Cobra outdrives. :grin:

Wow, your really did well here Wayne. Your rationale for changing everything out makes perfect sense to me. Bite the bullet and get it over with in one go rather than be down several times during our already short boating season.

No problem, takes about 10 minutes per side. Let me know when you want to do it. Your not pulling the boat to do the starters are you?
