We are currently refacing all cabinets and doors in the cabin of our 290 dancer.

Went with a dark wood grain from 3M Dinoc. Very sharp.... Here’s the problem.. The tambour doors were ugly to begin with, but now they are really really ugly next to the vinyl. Sigh. They scream 90’s!!!
Has anyone gave their tambours a makeover? What is an alternative you have used?
Appreciate any feedback guys... Thanks

Enlighten me please. What is a "tambours door" ? I have previously owned a 1998 270. Are you talking about the flexible rolling doors ?

Post pictures of the new cabinets if you can. I’d love to see it

Unless you're really into the remodeling and want to completely design the cupboards (tambour area) to entail doors, I think you're stuck with tambour. But, you could paint them - black, for example, would probably blend in well. You could also replace them with a more natural wood color tambour material of your choice.

Stain them

If you want to keep rolling door, check your local builders supply store and they may have material with different finishes. If you wish to update to sliding door then you can replace tracks to straight ones and put plexi door matching your color interior. You need to remember that with sliding doors you will loose opening since you be able to open only one half at the time.

You can buy sheets and or pieces of tambour online or at a local cabinet shop, comes in different kinds of wood, different shaped slats and the unfinished pieces you can stain it any color you want or paint it and its not that expensive. I replaced a lot of mine and stained it what I wanted.

Definitely on the pricier side but this stuff is impressive!
We do vinyl wraps for a living, before even having the roll all the way out of the box we were blown away @ the quality and how realistic the wood grain looked... this stuff is well worth the $

Looks like you did some remodeling to the cabinet area? It looks very nice.

thanks.. after a year of owning the boat we finally just figured out the mirror opens up to a storage cabinet

lol we popped that off and took down the wall that the thermostats was on to extend the seating in the front V...

I’ll have to see if I have a picture. Hubby made a seat to fit right in there... seems like a lot more space now!

Keep in mind that they do make the tambor material with metal finishes on the slats. My 1989 390 had the sliders with a brushed stainless finish on the slats and I had seen an 1980 era boat that had chrome finish on slats. Why not try to "wrap" the slats with your vinyl. It will be time consuming doing each slat but might look very custom when done.

would love to see that as well. Thinking it would make sleeping in the V way more comfortable too

Yes, those are the doors he is referring to.

I sold my 88 300 Weekender just as I was about to embark on my tambour door project:

I would remove the tambour unit, which is on a roll and trash it completely. I measured each cabinet diameter and was having PVC lumber cut half an inch longer/taller to cover the opening. I picked out some cabinet hardware from Home Depot to have the door hinged from the top. I also found small gas supports on Amazon which may have also been used. I gave all the materials to the new owner, but don't have any contact with him anymore.
