Taking 68 Pershing up the coast to CT

Wow - I am so GREEN. This is a dream come true! Enjoy - safe travels!

Larry,

Thanks for the invite.......

Todd, I was expecting the invitation as well, but then I stumbled in to CL ad "Looking for two young females to accompany on a one week complementary cruise on a 70' yacht....." Can you blame him? :smt043

With your range it looks like Ponce Inlet for a fuel stop. I think the Admiral and I will be out for the weekend and cruising that area and staying on the hook behind Disappearing Island. Inlet Harbor Marina has a large fuel dock, good restaurant and bar. Ponce is tricky coming in and heading north at low tide. You need to head straight to the island (disappearing island) and then turn north to get into channel. Sometimes there are poles out and sometimes not. Those surface drives have a "pucker factor" (if so equipped) in shallow water! Hope you enjoy and weather stays nice for ya. We are under 50% rain chance this weekend so it might turn out beautiful! I get nervous when we only have 20% chance...lol

Avoid Ponce Inlet if you can as it is not worth the stop over in that boat. Stop at Canaveral as this is a shipping port and plenty of depth etc. But I am sure you captain knows what he is doing and will take her in deep channels and inlets. Good luck with the trip and be safe.

Larry,

Keep an eye on the updates:

Shoaling at ICW MIle 731

Reported By: Vicki Latham (Cruising Editor)

At approx. ICW Mile 731 just south of Nassau Sound in Sawpit Creek (Green buoy 49 and 49A), three trawlers aground together yesterday. Leave the greens to starboard and hug the red shore for deep water...the shoal continues to build.

Thanks guys!
Fuel truck is meeting us here at the dock at 0700, we should be props turning by 0800. We have almost an hour ride just to get up the New River to get out of Port Everglades. According to the data the Captain has shared with me, we will be at our most efficient cruise speed of 36 kts (80% throttle and 125 GPH), we will make St Augestine FL and we will spend the night here.

Have a fun and safe trip Larry, I wish I was going with you guys. If you have time and are close, try The Conch House for dinner in St Augustine, cool place and great food, they also monitor the VHF too.

Ah, the New River. That is where our Sport Fish is. Marina Bay Marina. That is very tight with weekend traffic! Beautiful scenery getting out, but lots of bridges. I haven't built up enough nerve to take New Avenger out on my own, we get a Captain for that...lol

Here is a shot of us getting on plane in the Pershing 80...just to get you excited a little for your trip....

Funny! Marina Bay Marina is we're we left from! The boat has only been there for a few weeks, before that he kept in Jupiter.
I will try to figure out how to post some pics... But it has been a rough ride! Cruising at 34+ kts

I kinda figured that when you said how long it was going to take to get out of the New River! With the wind I am having at the shop I knew you were in for a rough ride! You still going to make St Augustine? Here was my ride down in the 70 footer during Tropical Storm Debby....

Station SAUF1 - St. Augustine, FL shows:

Wind Direction (WDIR): SSE ( 150 deg true )
Wind Speed (WSPD): 20 kts
Wind Gust (GST): 22 kts

Oh well, at least it's SSE, right?

Sorry I havn't updated in a week, but our trip has been interrupted, we never got out of Florida! Long story short, first night we only made it to Datona Beach as we duct inside at Port St Lucy and went up the ICW as the seas started getting a little bigger (5-6 ft+) and it made our 35kt cruise a little bumpy... BTW, the boat doesn't plane with anything less then 30kts! Well we left Datona on Saturday morning and noticed a metallic sound intermittently when down in the engine room, the captain said he had a mechanic in St Augustine that he want to look at it, so we ran about 50 miles in the ICW on one engine up to St Augustine, mechanic opened 2 of the the individual valve covers and said that there was a valve issue and he believed we may have a bent or broken valve.... Following day they spent a full day disassembling these 2 cylinder heads and ultimately found piston damage as well. They are doing the necessary repairs this week, so I flew back home untill the repairs are made, boat may be done later this week. BTW, estimates were $35-$50K....:smt021
