Swim Platform Mat

I had a mat made last year and all I had to do was send in a templete which I made out of craft paper. I even had the rug cut out to fit the swim ladder. Fit great for around $180.00. I used snap in carpet listed above, highly recommeded.

I got a long outdoor runner from Walmart, black, and keep it over the platform when we are at the dock. I'm sure the professional carpet looks much better but I didn't want to get the platform piece separate from the cockpit carpets. (I'll get all of them together from the site mentioned next year.)

Did you have snaps installed on the mat ? Or does it just lay flat and not move around because of it's size and the rubber backing? Heavy enough to keep it from blowing into the drink in a stiff breeze at the slip?

Don't let Gary hear that you bought something for your boat at WalMart. :wow:

Does anyone know if Sea Ray have a Rubber Matt to Fit the Transom of a Sun Deck 200 as per what they do for the Fission and Select Boats?

I purchased a runner, in-door/out-door carpet, from Home Depot that was about 14 feet long for something under $15.00 several five years ago. Trimmed it with prunning schears and installed two snaps at each corner near the transom. Worked great and still quite usable.

Excuse the stupid question, but is the primary purpose of carpet on the swim platform simply one of beauty and the prevention of dirt being tracked into the cockpit?

I like the idea, but I think it would be constantly wet and therefore would likely deteriorate quickly.

I looked briefly into a rubber mat for our swim platform a couple years ago. Didn't feel it would be worth the expense to have something custom made but $180 does not sound bad at all. I want it to give the dogs a little better footing when they jump off the thing.

There are several products online shopping that can handle your needs. They provide marine use outdoor carpeting, or polyvinyl and some that are even oil resistant such as Nitrile products. try www.corinthianmarine.com or www.marinecarpetsales.com soem of the products are USCG appropved. One company that makes custom mats is www.syntec.com Good Luck!

heres mine from custom marine carpet!

Classy, clean and neat as well as traction for a good footing at night or when slick. Dries very quickly where it lay and is comfy to sit or lay on. It pops off during travel and if it is going to pour rain also it is very light.

It's not something I leave on 24/7 but at my dock for guests or when visiting a marina, its sort of like my "Sunday best"

That looks terriffic! Think I've got the bug again to get something for ours.

Unless it snaps in, DON'T DO IT! You'll inevitably leave it on the platform and it'll sink down to Davey Jones' locker while the boat is under way.

Dress her up! you dont even need snaps.

Call John he will take care of you, make a template its easy.

Wow, that looks great - I think I might have to copycat you...

That is really sharp Dave-

I understand you probably do not motor with this one. For those who do using the snaps...what about the drainage holes in the deck that are covered up? Most all Searays with larger platforms have these holes...and I assume they are to drain water. I know my swimdeck is usually quite wet when returning from an on plane cruise.

I suppose Tim got his answer regarding a rubber mat. As far as carpeting goes...I could never use it on my swim platform because it would be soaking wet all the time. The "blow holes" would be covered as well and when I couldn't use it (like while boating) I would need to store it somewhere. As far as looks...Daves swim platform is really nice looking with that carpet.
