I just installed a new amp and (2) 10's in a ported box on the starboard side of my 240SD. It sounds great but having to port the door to really feel/hear the bass is annoying. Can someone post a couple pics of what the factory sub looks like underneath the passenger bench style seat? I'm planning on moving one sub to the factory location and one right in front of the starboard swinging door where the amp is located now.

I'm curious to know if the factory sub is free air or not.

Thanks for your help.

What year 240 do you have, this is why it is good to have your boat information in your singature.

Look at my pics I placed on the speaker upgrade thread. The subwoofer is merely a port through the seat. It is sealed under the seat in it's own box.

Yea I took a look at those before I made my post but you actually answered my question in one of your later posts regarding free-air. I cut my holes yesterday...scary. One in underneath the seat in the typical factory location and one underneath the helm facing the walkway. The subs are installed and they're lookin' real good. They just sound too tame right now b/c they're both running free-air. I'll make my custom boxes this week so I can get back to bumpin' next weekend.

I have seen some guy's who were real good at install make the box then silicone it and butt it up to the fiberglass area where the sub meets. Then screw the sub through the fiberglass right into the sealed box. It is tricky but works. Mine is sealed tight in it's own box then ported out. Good luck, if you still do not get that uumph your looking for you might try a big Rockford amp.

I think that's my game plan. I'm going to butt the box up to the fiberglass and go the silicone route. I think the surfaces are flat enough to make it work. The only one that may be tricky is the one underneath the helm b/c the fiberglass is thicker at the top of the cutout. In any event it'll sound better than free-air!

I have a 430w 4 ch Memphis Marine amp that I'm using. 2ch for the mids/highs and 2ch for the subs. Thanks for all the input.

Hey a neat feature of this kind of forum is - if you click on the number of the thread in the upper right corner it takes you to the just that post & if you copy & paste that url from the address bar, it will take you to that specific post or pic.

example: this is post 8 http://clubsearay.com/forum/showpost.php?p=106478&postcount=8

It would save time searching back for old subjects

I am just partial to the Rockford Fosgate's because their balls are bigger than King Cong's and you can bake them them cool them and they work just fine.
