Hi All,

Just got my first Sea Ray (2002 270 Sundeck)

Been talking to a lot of people regarding the the pros and cons of IO's.

Concerned about major repairs and I'm willing to take as much precautions as i can to minimize them.

If you could tell me one tip to keep the Motor in good shape, what would it be????

Change your impellar at least every two years if not sooner depending on use. In saltwater where you boat and given that you will probably use it year round, I would suggest doing it annually!

Get ahold of the mercrusier operators manual and make sure whoever does your routine service follows the schedule. It is pretty straight forward, just make sure that they actually perform the work or do it yourself. Try to find out what has been done already and compare that to the suggested schedule.

Don't run the boat where birds are walking............

Have your outdrive removed and serviced annually, follow Mercruiser's service recommendations, and don't leave the boat in the water. Bravo drives have a known issue with corrosion.

One word ... Service, Service, Service. Change oils and filters anualy. My distributer cap has a element within to absorb moisture. Yours may too. Change that too. Get Merc parts if you can, there is a differance. Congrats.
