ok so i cant stand listening to the stock radio any longer (and i have only heard it about 3 times!)

i asked a local stereo shop to give me an estimate for new head unit (so i can be ipod and sat ready).. new remote for helm, replace (4) 6.5 cockpit speakers, new 10 sub to be installed where factory sub would have been installed and required amps. i really like the JL stuff but damn its expensive. i didnt know if any of you stereo buffs had any experience with rockford and also what you may think of his estimate. i hope its not too "skewed"... i had to copy and paste from excel.

OK. . . I'll go first.

If you like the head unit and sound of the M262 I think you have a nice set up.

I have owned and pounded on a RF Marine Sub for years. RockFord Fosgate builds some good amps and speakers. RF will provide years of great performance and reliability. I think this is a well balanced system and properly installed will sound strong. I have not looked closely at Clarion Head units so no opinion offered.

Here is my observations. With the pricing on equipment you could consider the JL Audio speakers. The only reason I say that is you brought it up. I assume you have listened and like. You may want to check out BOE Marine for any JL needs. I have purchased from Jim here and he has great pricing on JL. Another observation is regarding the Labor and Materials quote. I believe this is reasonable and would bet there will be two installers or over 5 hours time invested.

Follow up question . . . Is there any other equipment considerations/recommendations that your local shop has made?

I just finished my stereo upgrade project http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38861&highlight=Stereo+Upgradeand I agree with "HIFI" on the speaker choice of JL’s as well. At the prices you have quoted here, I actually got my JL’s (all five of them) for less. $475 for labor, I guess that’s not too bad. It took me longer than 5 hours to do mine, but then I’m no pro either. But I did save enough to buy those Elton John concert tickets, even some left over for dinner before!

I can tell you this, when completed you will be very happy with your new system.

Do the install yourself....your get to know your equipment and your boat better...also go with the MW1 remote instead of the MW2 The MW1 has the LCD screen which is a must with an IPOD.

i did decide to go with the LCD remote just for that reason. i would do the install myself but the boat is 2.5 hours away from me and i try to reserve the time i have on it for enjoyment. plus i really dont feel like doing it! lol

The estimate seems reasonable as most installers charge close to retail for components. Were you able to demo these speakers? I have never heard the RF marine speakers in person.

i actually decided to go with this set up:

(1) JL Audio MHD900 Marine 900W 5-Channel Class D Full Range Amplifier
(1) JL Audio M10IB5-SG-WH Subwoofer Driver - Sport Grill - White
(4) JL Audio M770-CCS-SG-WH - 7.7" Component Speakers - Sports Grill - White

Sony CDX-m60-ui head unit
Sony RMX 60 ml remote commander for the helm

i just like the JL gear and didnt want to skimp out on tunes!

Nice!.....I really like my JL components.

stereo install is complete. everything sounded great.. but it still didnt have the deep bass that is needed sometimes when the ladies get a little too much jager in them. i think the (1) 10" JL sub (infinite baffle) just doesnt have enough. luckily with the amp i installed i have enough power to install 1 more sub. this time it will be in an enclosed, down firing box. this is going to be installed with quick disconnects under the rear seat. should be interesting to see how it sounds!!
