Stereo upgrade assitance sought

18 JL770 component on just the bridge and 2 10"JL subs ...... Need I say more, oh and 3 JL 400 watt amps and 2 600 watt amps for the subs it's all about the clarity
Wow that sounds like a lot of power. You may need to go nuclear to power that boat.

After I saw Polk Audio win a boat stereo sound off I knew this was the system for my boat. Using MM651 speakers and MM1540 subwoofers. powered by 4000 watts. There are 8 MM651 speakers and 2 MM1540 subwoofers. Best sounding system I ever had. I can see why Polk Audio won the stereo sound off. There are people at the dock bringing their music to the boat so they can hear how it sounds on the Polk Audio system. Never had this before with any of the other boats I owned.
I have to say Polk Audio to those looking for a good system.

Where was the boat stereo sound off? What type of boat? Any pictures? Matt Polk I think that was his name an engineer who started everything out of his garage. Speakers for home used to sound decent for the buck! I have not heard any of his car or marine line.

Robert...did you install these yourself? How many speakers come from the factory on a 48DB?

Well despite all the good advice I went in a different direction. I replaced the stock source unit with the Fusion 700 ipod dock unit, the cockpit amp with the Fusion 5 channel marine amp and installed the 10 inch subwoofer (port side passenger seat), and kept the stock clarions running for the time being. Result is greater functionality in the head unit and good quality sound in the cockpit. I might tinker with the stock speakers next year but next project is the old analogue TVs!!

Please post your opinion on the Fusion 700 when you have had a chance to mess around with it I am really leaning towards this unit for my winter project. Thanks and enjoy your new equipment.

Gave the new system a test run last weekend. The Fusion 700 and controller is exteremly user friendly and functional. Having the ipod model has given me an endless supply of music particularly as I have a streaming app on the iphone. The sound quality has improved considerably but I assume this has been driven primarily by the amp althought I intially ran the 700 throught the stock amp and there was a definite sound improvement over the factory clarion - in doing so however the Fusion 10 inch subwoofer has shown up a few shortcomings of the stock 6 inch clarion speakers. They sound a little tinny against the base beat. I think the Polks migth just be the solution to balance the speaker system. I'm in the process of putting in 2 new TVs (to run off the 12V system) and will interface them with the 700 giving me sight and sound - can't wait to run the Eagles Until Hell Freezes Over dvd through it!!

Figured out the stock clarion speakers were only in need of some adjustment - balance, bass and treble through the 700 unit - so I'm sticking with the clarions for the time being as the sound is pretty good all round.

I put the Fusion 700 in last year and I absolutely love it. The best part is I can control all functions with my iPad using the Fusion app. I did not put any remotes in and just use the iPad. My friends think it's pretty cool.

Finished my Fusion ms700i install today Wow! This unit is so cool. Also installed a remote for the helm and will add another to the cockpit. I'm using the stock amps, (Panasonic) and stock speakers (Clarion) and 10" sub for now, the fusion has a built in amp and I cannot turn this unit up its that loud! I also installed a router to control the unit using the free app, I tried it from a distance of about 30' from the boat and worked great. I added a Fusion unidock to accept the larger phones and connected using the USB connector. Added the bluetooth dongle which connects to the sirius xm port (you loose xm though). Hooked the video out to the salon tv so now I download or rent a movie from iTunes on my old iPhone 4 dock it in the head unit and the movie plays on the tv and sound comes through the salon speakers. Also linked the DVD player to it. With 4 zones you can adjust volumes and tones separately and "name" each zone for simple identification. All in all I really like it so far. One thing I would put on my wish list would be to watch a movie in the salon and listen to music out in the cockpit. Maybe they will add that feature next time around.

Bottom line , yes I installed everything including cut new holes for the 770 JLs I believe that there was only 4 speakers and a sub on the bridge when I began , I really want to get a speaker POD so that we can hear music clearly without having to crank it up while sunbathing on the bow.

I'll add to the group as a happy Fusion XX700 customer. I went with the AV700 and I really like the radio. The sound and functionality is good and user friendly. I just bought a whole new treasure trove of audio goodies so we will see how it works when we change my system for 50watts to 1000watts... The phone app is great and works well from a distance as long as you have a good router. The Bluetooth dongle is good as well as long as you don't mind loosing your Sirius/XM conector or you can simply buy the Aux input dongle ans save your sat radio. I am also putting in a NMEA2000 network this spring so I will let you know how the functionality is with this set up as well!

I have a pioneer touchscreen double Din head unit
4 alpine 6x9s just for the cabin for night time
the cockpit has 6- jl audio m880s
2 10" jl audio subs
and bazooka 8" wake tower speakers on the arch which has a 8" rear facing speaker and a 6.5" forward facing speaker per unit
and a cutom jl m770 in my cockpit door so you can aim it at the swimming area
4 amps totalling 2800 watts custom mounted in the cabin cabinetry with fans and always being in the AC!!!
JL Audio all the way!!!!

Good to see all the positive input on JL audio, I just ordered MX 650's for my cockpit hardtop. Had to go with the 650 because of the shape of the fiberglass won't allow any bigger I'm going to add a JL 10" sub, with a seperate amp. The bridge has a 10" sub and two 6.5" clarions which I'm sure will be pulled after I try the JL's outside
