Steering wheel adjustment Help on 340 --with Pics

The Teleflex system pictured above is hydraulic so there is no mechanical connection between the helm pump and the rudder. The rudder is moved by pushing hydraulic fluid into and out of the steering ram. If you guys have removed the wheel and re-installed it and it stays aligned, all that means is that you haven't have a hydraulic leak yet and are lucky.

If you have an autopilot, you will never get the wheel to align and stay put, but if you do, you can set the A/P dead ahead and rotate the wheel to get it straight.........it'll stay there a few minutes.

The Teleflex pump has bypass valves at either end of its range of motion. You can change the wheel center orientation by turning the wheel all the way to lock in either direction, then force the wheel past the lock point by the amount of misalignment you are trying to correct. It'll stay that way a while but nothing you do will make a permanent correction to the wheel center alignment.
