State sponsored fuel price relief

Why do we have to pipe crude oil all the way to Texas?? Why not build an oil refinery near where the pipeline was stopped?

Because the pipeline is already built and operational, or was until the current administration shut it down. All is needed is to flip the preverbal switch and we're back in business. Wait much longer and we'll have to reconstruct it again because it sat too long.

We are more then capable of being oil independent and as mentioned, sell our oil to others. We just choose not to, EV's are clearly not the answer either building the batteries and getting rid of them causes more damage then fossil fuels ever will.

I think we need "Mr. Fusion power" (Back tot he Future) and we could get rid of the landfills while we're at it ...

The Keystone XL pipeline is not completed and the company that was building it has dismantled there infrastructure to complete and says it will not proceed. I don’t know whether another company could just pick up and proceed but with the red tape involved it would take years. Put a Trump back in office and he will fast track it like he did the vaccine approvals and we will have oil flowing in six months!

Suspending the gas tax would help the actual people who need it without any forms, web sites, or beurocrats. But perhaps that makes too much sense. I'm sure its far more efficient and fair to send a check to anyone who has a registered vehicle. I mean, what could go wrong?

F* that shit! I have an electric car. I don't pay a fuel tax( MO is $0.195/gallon), but do have to pay for an Alternative fuel decal (fee goes to roads). It is around $100/year. So you want to stop the gas tax (doesn't do anything for me) and then tax me more to make up the difference the road fund loses with no fuel tax. That's a big NOPE from me.

Yeah, it wasn't 100% operational to it's original plan but was delivering oil to the US in large enough quantities to impact our oil dependency's on OPEC. If that was finished it would have made a huge impact, although it had already ended our OPEC involvement.

Yep. Welcome to the Democrat party. :)

What do you think they do with all your other tax dollars?
You’re sounding like a capitalist. Careful . You might get canceled.

There hasn’t been a grass roots refinery built in the US since the early 1970s. It’s just too difficult to go through the permitting process. It becomes easier, more cost effective to increase capacity at existing sites.

Exactly….. same goes for foundries…. Gov regs have made it impossible to do green grass….. why everyone went to Mexico

Hang on a second Francis….the state gas taxes, like them or not, do go to road building projects. You EV decal was created to have you share in the cost of roads.

Now, let’s talk about that big tax break you got for buying that EV….a government welfare program to get an industry they want established.

My son was a safety guy for Michels Corporation. They were building gas pipelines all over. He was in Williston, North Dakota, Thief River Falls, MN, Baytown, TX and a few locations in Ohio, PA and WV. I think they were working on the Keystone XL when he was in Thief River Falls but not sure. Either way, he left that company right after Biden was elected partially because he knew he would likely lose his job and partially to be closer to home.

The issue with opening them back up is what would the start up costs be? Only to have Biden change his mind in 3 weeks and shut them down again? I wouldn't think it would be economically feasible so not sure that would happen as long as dems are in control.

What part of MO are you from?

Not sure about the rest of you, but our electric bill seems to be the most expensive bill besides food in our household. I couldn’t imagine what it’d be like if we had a 240v rapid charger charging every night in the garage.

A couple of things... I agree with fuel tax to pay for roads. I agree with my EV decal. I don't have a problem contributing to the roads. I have a tesla. It is and has not been eligible for a tax credit for quite some time.

Funny.. Last night when I read your post and googled to find out the skinny on the pipe line, this article was top of the search. I only read about half about how the pipeline construction had been halted. I did not realize the extension was what was cancelled. It still is not clear as to why the company is dismantling and reclaiming the land. I imagine further research would reveal that Biden is routing a few hundred million bucks to the company to erase any evidence of the expansion project so that when inevitable regime change happens it will be harder to make the XL extension to Texas next to impossible.
