Starlink

Do you think the SL performs better facing straight up? Also how do you disable the motor?

Thanks

It's funny, I meant to add that in my last post. But yes, it definitely performs as well and handles motion better. Mine when it detects motion it goes flat by itself. So disabling the motors and leaving it flat will be the same thing.

I ran it like that all last year and it worked just fine. As mentioned, once it shutdown while in motion, but after we docked it started right back up.

This describes the process. Just did this again this morning on the new one.

Since season is winding down. I'm starting to work on my flat mount for the starlink. Looking at the in motion version there is a slight forward tilt. Curios if there is any benefit to this. Wondering if I should incorporate in my build of my basic home version. Attached is what i'm planning to do, but in a slightly different fashion.
I like this mount. Looks custom.

Yeah, if this mount was available, it would be the one I would use.

I just received an email from West Marine advertising Starlink. The link in the email takes you here:

I guess SL is so main stream now that even WM is selling it. Crazy how fast things come about.

Speaking of starlink i just got my updated fabrication pics from @MasterFab. Looks like he wrapped up my mod to mount my starlink to the arch. Can't wait to start hacking away...:)

Oh man that looks sweet! Is he interested in making more?

I'm sure he'll make whatever you want. However I did provide him with the mount from my old red port Wi-Fi booster. He had to form the plate to match the contour of the the starlink then weld on the post. BTW that starlink backing that you sent me did the trick. Thanks again for that.

I am hoping he could just duplicate what he did for you and I can send him what ever he needs. Your quite welcome.

Anybody have any experience with this connectivity...?

You should start a new thread or post to the peplink one. It's only a sim card for a phone or possibly a cell modem. This has nothing to do with starlink at all.

Smile and wave....

I posted what I did because there was a big discussion in the peplink thread, more fitting to continue that.

Seems starlink just dropped a flat residential model. No idea on availability yet.

I live out in the boonies. No cable TV or natural gas service. Which means, aside from loving having no neighbors, I have very limited choices for internet. Oh, and I work from home and need internet.

For the last several years I have had Exede/Viasat service. In fact, I had two complete systems: 1 for work and 1 for the house. It was barely tolerable.

A month ago I ordered Starlink. Within a week I was convinced and canceled both of my other systems. I can now work much more efficiently and actually do things likes stream movies without buffering. I know, finally into the 21st century.

This is my solid endorsement of Starlink. Easy to setup...no tech visit needed. Great speeds with low latency. That is with their base plan...I would be unstoppable if I got their pro plan.

That Elon guy might be on to something

You should try it on a boat. Great being able to work from the boat when needed. Makes Fridays a whole lot sweeter!

During the summer, I actually work from my boat 5 days a week. good wifi at the marina.

Winter....back to the home office.

Quick mock up of the new mount. Aesthetically I think it would look better and more balanced if I swapped its location with the gps unit. However I think it would perform better where it’s located.

@Irie308 I spoke with Dale yesterday and he is making me this exact mount. Very nice guy, as it turns out Dale is a member on here, just hasn't been active of late. He is also thinking of making a few of these if anyone is interested. He can also do custom mounts as well. Although this is pretty custom.

You might want to wait... New residential dishy coming
