Starlink

My area is wait listed, so I guess sketchy service at best. Hopefully next year my area (Chesapeake) will have service. This looks real promising.
Most if not all of the large metropolitan areas are not available yet for Starlink. The people who I know (RV and boat owners) all live within the boundaries where service is unavailable have had the unit shipped to their residence but they register for service in an “available” zone. None of them have reported slow or sketchy service at any time.

That would be great except I am near Annapolis MD, and there isn't an available zone anywhere near there. I guess I just have to wait it out. Big Bummer.

Who said it had to be close by? There are plenty options in New Jersey. Pick a town like "Long Beach" or "Surf City".

Country Meadows Rents & Sales

OK, so this may be a very stupid question.

Since there is a two way signal, would StarLink actually know your location?

I was going to upgrade my cell antenna but this is the exact price of the antenna,

And that is my way of thinking and where I am there is no sat(s).

But I was going to upgrade my cell antenna, so now it looks like I am going to try this. If it doesn't work now, hopefully it will next season, and that's the rub for me.

Here's a pic of the installation on my buddy's boat using the mount from the above link. My buddy is NOT technical, but utilizing some online forum was able to install an on/off switch on the back of the antenna for the stabilization motors. Apparently, there are detailed instructions that tell you exactly where to drill in order to access the plug on the circuit board, which can either be simply unplugged and then the hole sealed to permanently disable the motors, or can be unplugged and wired through a switch to give you the option. Antenna is located in So Cal. Purchased via the RV program for 600 bucks. No limit on the monthly usage, and it's averaging 160-188 MBPS.

I found myself looking at the coverage map to see where I could be anchored, and still have full Internet access for work. Seems, like I could make court appearances online over the entire West Coast of Mexico and the Sea of Cortez.... Tempting...

I just purchased a starlink so I can work from the boat more often and have better quality internet for Vidoe calls. I’m looking to install on my radar arch. Do you guys keep your starlink plugged into an inverter or just restart it when you switch back and forth from shore power to genny when leaving the dock/returning? I’m looking at installing an inverter as I hate having to reset my roku, google home, etc each time I pull away from the dock, which I do often.

Sorry for the multiple posts but just thought of another question on starlink. Probably a dumb one but, how far away can you get the wifi signal from your boat? Meaning if you tied the boat up how far away can you go before the wifi signal drops out. I have a semi remote cabin on an island, so if my starlink is mounted on my boat and I’m tied up to the sea wall, wondering if I will be able to get the wifi in the cabin that’s about 20 -30 feet off the sea wall?

You will be good .

We have friends that use ours while in the slip and they are about 100 feet from us.I have gotten the signal as far as 400 feet away from the boat.

Once you have the starlink app on your phone and online you can see in the app how far it reaches.

We have a inverter on the boat so it is on 24/7 off shore power and in the slip it is on shore power. This also will make it that I can finally install wifi cameras in our slip.
