Boat Info
340 Sundancer 2001
Engines
T 454 MPI
Facts:

twin 7.4 MPIs
first time trying to start this season
Port Starts fine
Starboard ran fine before I winterized it
If I try the Emergency Cross Over the Port Engine breaker in cabin trips.
No clicking or any noise
Transmission is in neutral
I replaced the manifolds and risers at the end of the season, and did not start the boat until now

What did:

Replaced the batteries on the starboard solenoid
Made sure all the switches are on.
Looked for loose wires
unplugged the shore power
Tired to start my genny, but it wont start... Different problem, for another thread...

Any ideas or suggestion is appreciated... I winterized it in the water, so getting it to a marine to get repaired will be a challenge...

dead short in the starter drawing too many amps ??
smack the starter wit a hammer

OK, tripping a breaker? should not be a breaker between engines
exactly how you winterized it.
will in your area Sat if needed
Do the gauges come alive with the key?
Check the cable connection epecially the neg block cable

just to be sure it is completely in neutral - try jiggling the shifter while you turn the start key - sometimes, even though the gear is in neutral, it doesnt shift out of gear.

the tripping of the breaker says excessive amp draw to me
does it trip when trying to crank or immediately when you hit the cross over ?

unhook the positive cable at starter and leave it hang insulated from ground of course and see if the breaker trips

if it does the problem is upstream of the starter ...reconnect and go backwards in the circuit till it doesnt

Great... I will try that tomorrow... thanks for the help... I will tell you what happens...

and the winner is starter fusible link... Thanks to BTDoctor and Frank... All running now

The 90A link was the issue but the how and why remain unknown. The total power loss to the engines was because the alt and the engine power are combined at the block courtesey of Mercruiser and the Lawers.
The engine power is protected by a 50A circuit breaker and does not need a 90A before it. The 90A was supposed to protect the alt feed to the battery thru the starter cable.
Once this connection is cut away and the ships power comes from the starter and just the alt feed to the battery is protected by the 90A link.

On the plus side you never lose ships engine power , you always have power to the ign and starting systems.

The only thing to test at start up is to see the alt charging. Key on, look at the volts, start engine , volts increase. Start engine and volts stay the same , verify battery power at the alt output post because if the 90A link is good you will read battery voltage. No voltage 90A link is bad

The alternator voltage was fluctuating. .. I plan on installing a new alternator....
