Splash Day. Ended badly for us.

+1 on not knowing much on diesels, but work for a trucking dealership so we have lots of diesels around. Look at the fuel water separator daily, definiately keep the filters for the fuel changed (that is normally one of the first things changed when a truck won't start that is cranking over).

Do you have air filters on the intakes for boats?

A number of trucking companies use an oil filter that spins the oil so that contaminants are thrown out of the oil, lubrifiner if I recall the name properly, might be interesting to have on a boat.

Yes new air filters installed already, also had the seawater pumps rebuilt aftercoolers checked and the heat exchangers removed and checked all good. This is a fresh water only boat bought new in port clinton ohio and i am the third owner.I want to change out the antifreeze when i get it home and a few other things, the oil has been changed already in both engines and the genny, right after the oil samples were drawn for the survey after running the engines.Sorry i didnt meen to steal the thread.I will post something elsewhere for this probably greatlakes forum. Thanks for your support. Todd any luck with the insurance company?Glen

They have a marine surveyor working with my mechanic to get the engines pulled and broken down. I asked the mechanic to wait until after this holiday weekend as we are planning on building our dock deck and staying at the boat all weekend. He was happy because he said he is slammed this week. We will have it pulled Monday and will have to be patient for all this to get worked out. My mechanic has a line on one good low hour 350 and he is looking for another just in case the insurance company denies the claim. Gonna be sad if the boats out of the water for a month!!

Supposedly that is what the tear down is for. Apparently this marine surveyor knows what he is looking for. I don't know what to expect other than it's my only glimmer of hope before I have to shell out big cash to get her running again!

Usually when a problem occurs you go back to the last action that was take. Your mechanic just worked on the impellers and now both engines are down. Start here! My thermostat went on OldSkool and I still got 2 miles from the dock before overheating. It actually cooled better on plane than idling back to the dock. Still fried the impeller.

Sounds like the boat was never brought up to temp after the impeller change. I'd be seeing an man about his previous repair.

BTW. if both engines are seized you would smell heavy oil in the bilge. No coolant smell as there is none on raw water systems. Overheating will cause the piston to weld itself to the cylinder wall. Low or no oil will cause the rods and main bearings to seize to the crankshaft. Do the research and see which it is. Find another mechanic to pull one head on the seized engine and look at the cylinder walls.

????? Engines being replaced (on another thread) Still need to know the cause of both engines failing. Sad story, and still
amazed that this whole situation was even possible when you spend that much money for purchasing a first boat of this size.
