Is there a way to check it? I am not sure how the speedo operates on my boat, and nothing in the manuals at all about it. Where should I look for possible causes? How does it gauge speed?

It worked up until the last time out fine, and now it doesnt react at all. Stays at 0.

Thanks!

You are on here enough that you should know the answer to this, there are only 3 topics going on with the same question right now

Just giving you a hard time Bill  but this one gets asked about once a week

Just take a large drill bit, at least 1/2" and make the pitot hole bigger.

Err... don't do that.

I Just fixed this problem on my 2006 290 Amberjack.

On the Top of the STBD engine, near the back, there is a sensor for the speedometer, the read out comes from pressure on the pin hole located on the outdrive. I disconnected the hose in the bilge and put an air compressor on it to plow out any thing stuck in the line.

Working like a charm now! This is until the next leaf gets stuck in it.

I was also able to do this from the bilge rather than pulling the boat or going for a swim.

Good luck!

Paul

oohh, oohhh, Panaroy, do you have pics of the sensor? I want to see if I have the same contraption on my 5.0.

I'm in the water for the season and the pitot is clogged and I don't want to get in our nasty, cold water for at least another month!

See, I learned something!
