I have a 2007 340 Sundancer w/ 8.1 Horizons and V drives. Speedometer on the dash has not worked for a couple of years but I was getting a speed reading on my Smartcraft until recently. Alarm code on the Smartcraft says low pitot on port. Checked w/ a local service dealer and they suggested cleaning the paddle wheel. Also said this boat should not have a pitot sensor. I pulled the paddle wheel and check for any obstructions and flushed it out with a water hose, did not see anything. Neither speedo works still. Any ideas? Don't understand why I have owned this boat for 8 years and the pitot sensor alarm just recently came on but the service dealer says it does not have a pitot sensor? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Do you have a smartphone? I use the Waze app, which has a GPS speedo built in. FREE APP!!! Much more accurate than my paddle wheel!

We need to know if you have a Vessel View, System View or SC1000 Gauge set (TACHS and SPEEDO have LCD Readout)

Sounds like the Speed Input needs to be changed from Pitot to Paddlewheel in System Calibration. Once the first question is answered, we can help you further.

I'm not terribly knowledgeable on the SC5000 but as I recall you can do a sensor reset. One caution is you may have to recalibrate the fuel tank senders if you do this reset. The process should be described in the SC5000 owners manual. If not, it could be the paddlewheel is not plugged in to the engine harness well or maybe the paddlewheel sensor just went out; it happens. But your dealer was right, you would not have a pitot on a V-Drive boat.

I ordered the Mercury Smartcraft gateway to connect my Lowrance unit via NMEA 2000. I'm done with paddle wheels and pitot sensors.
