The nmea2k is where the gateway gets power from iirc. It’s not a big deal to install and it’s nice to see accurate info on your MFD…. This is one of the best upgrades I have spent on my 380…. I love having accurate info and it’s nice to see fuel burn, remaining fuel in the tank etc….

...so, if using my iPhone, I don't need the NMEA network? Thinking about adding an iPad air where some of the RayMarine stuff is.

....and if wanting to use the SIMRAD screens, I would need to install the NMEA network?

Question: The previous owner installed a SimRad GO9 with fish finder, chart plotter and radar. What’s the chance they installed a NMEA network to make it work?

I’m thinking I may only need the engine gateways and a couple of added tees to accomplish the goal.

I had one already installed in mine, so that’s what it took, a couple of T’s and short cables…. Either way, it’s not bad. Worst case $100 and a couple hours (and that’s generous) at most to install the backbone…

I have a Garmin 72 sv or sv 74 something like that. It's one year old . Will that show info on it

While we are on this topic, where did you guys find the best location to mount the Fox marine gateways?

Mine are mounted in the engine room. They plug into the diagnostic port on the engine and have an oil pressure sender if you opt for that as well. They need to be within 10’ or so of the engine from what I remember of the cable lengths. Also, they do require N2K network wiring if only for power. The N2K network wire is just copper cable (no active electronics) so it’s pretty inexpensive and simple to install. This allows it to be routed from your ER to your Helm to connect with your MFD as well.

I ordered the 6m backbone to run to the helm while I run my new transducer cable up front as well, I figured I would snake them both at the same time. I was going to mount the 2 gateways centered behind both motors on the transom wall, I hope that is a suitable location.

In case you don't know but put terminating resistors at each end of the backbone.
You may want to isolate that section of the backbone the devices are connected and power through the ignition switch so those gateways aren't always powered up. You can get isolating tees that will break up the system power.

Thank you this was going to be my layout, I was going to grab power from my accessory Switch on my dash that powers my GPS unit only, as I only really need the engine data while running my MFD. Throw the book at me if I made a layout error

When I bought my boat, the PO had an amp mounted in the engine room. I removed that and mounted my gateways n the lower area of this pic. I will be at the boat next weekend (April 29th) and I will take a pic of them

Can’t see your link to google mail

that is exactly how I feed my nmea2k power, off the “elect” switch, which I always turn on when I run the boat, which works for me

Which gateway do I need for a 2006 5.0 MPI alpha 1 gen 2

Which gateway do I need for a 2006 5.0 MPI alpha 1 gen 2

with smart craft, it’s a lot better and easier in my opinion.

@Mig22 did his 8.1’s which should be similar to yours.
For mine I had to get my ecm number and call merc to find out I have mefi 3

What network would a 2006 5.0 MPI have

It doesn't go by year like what backbone I would have I know nothing about this part of loading at all
