Pintos got a bad rap in my view. The number of gas tank explosions was fairly small relative to the miles driven. The car met a need for people who had a tight budget and needed a way to get around. The four cylinder engine with a manual four speed was darn near bullet proof. I sold my three door with 45000 miles to a friend who was very well off. He drove it to his Florida home and his grand kids used it for a few years. They turned it into a beater.

One year my father broke family tradition of buying Buicks and bought an AMC Pacer - OMG what a mess!

I've had about everything from a Ford Fiesta, VW Scirocco, BMW 3 Series, a couple of Volvos (740, 850, S60, S60 T5), but lately we have had 3 Lexus's (RX300, RX330, ES330), our current two have 120k and 160k miles with zero problems. Kinda tired of the Lexus, nice cars but a bit boring. Wife loves the SUV so will probably get her another one at some point, me, I am leaning toward a Volvo S60 or Audi A4 for my daily - I don't need anything large and would like something a little more fun to drive. I think the Volvo S60 T5 is a sleeper - we bought one for our daughter and it's a little rocket - they really aren't your fathers Volvo anymore.

I think a new(er) boat is going to come before the car. I'm just not enough of a car guy to invest big $$ in a car, I want something nice, tend to buy new or CPO and keep it at least 8-10yrs - 100k + miles.

Now that we aren't paying some sort of school tuition for the first time in 15yrs, we are just rolling in cash - haha.

guest house remodel 007.jpg This is the first TT I bought, front wheel drive, manual transmission, 180HP. It had just been introduced at the car shows in Europe and caused quite a stir due to its ground breaking design and high quality interrior. I believe Audi was selling just 140 TTs/month in the US in 2017

These might be the modern day version of plaid seats.

A Raptor takes up too much space in the garage. So I went with the smaller version. LOVE it!!

I wish it was a gated shifter but, it's an F1 transmission.

Very reliable. In three years it has never stranded me and only had one issue with the transmission pump.

Sweet looking car. I used to get passed on the Edens expressway on the way to work in downtown Chicago years ago. It was a red convertible and the thing I remember most as he went by my Pinto station wagon were the flames coming out the exhaust pipes.

I should add that my seats were far more impressive. They were the latest plaid design.

in line with my british car fetish , I found this mint 2005 superV8. 90k new.... now affordable after depreciation took its toll. every possible option jag offered back then. IMO the last of the iconic body style that is unmistakenly jaguar.

My second family in South Africa always had XJ6's and I thought they were the most beautiful proportionate sedan around. Never looks dated.

Now you need to add an E-type to finish the collection

I used to have a 1994 XJ6.....loved the looks and comfort but hated working on it every week.....it seems there was always an electrical or mechanical repair that needed to be done....

e-types are a whole different world of punishment! especially to ones' wallet. I did have a 96 xjs convertible which I regret getting rid of. wife thought we didn't need a two seater anymore , but she was a nice one. blue / blue top / cream interior.
