As some of you may remember, I've been looking for a bigger boat for a while now. I had been looking at older 340's and 350's, and even a couple 390's, all with no luck. Well, I finally found one that met the criteria of price and condition, and this past Saturday sea trialed and closed on a 1986 390ec!! She needs a few things, mostly refinishing of wood and soft goods, but is structurally and mechanically sound. I'm planning the trip home from Seneca Creek, MD to Bass River, NJ for hopefully next weekend. I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions once I get her home (and possibly before), but for now, I'll just share some pictures.

Welcome to the Classic 390 Express World... lots of information on this site, just search the threads, I am sure you will love this boat, we are going on our 13th season.

Find out when the impellers were changed before you make the trip, fuel stabilizer,
working VHF,chart for trip, coast guard package …. wait for a calm day.I'm sure others will chine in.

Good luck and congrats

Congratulations on your "aquasition". The 390 EC is a great boat. Check out the "Official 390 E.C. Thread" for lots of great info on this classic boat.

lol. I've read that 390 thread end-to-end several times over the last two years. It was both my biggest inspiration and also biggest roadblock to deciding to go for a 390. In the end, all the information here has been more a help than I could have otherwise hoped for.

one impeller was new mid-season last year along with the whole engine and rebuilt transmission. The other is a couple years old, but appeared to be working fine on the sea trial. I had planned on replacing it this winter. How do I locate a part number for an impeller kit? I'll gladly throw the kit on the boat to have if/when i need it.

I would replace them both at the same time so you have an even record.I'm not sure I'd wait until the winter to do the older one. Ask Frank Webster for his input he's (the man)!!!

Congrats! Where on Seneca Creek did you buy her? I bought my boat at Goose Harbor a few years ago.

Congrats! I love that era of the 390. When I lived in Ontario, I regularly drove a dock mate's as he'd had a few too many! I spent a whack of time docking it...handles super nice.

And...replace both impellers now, same time. Point of reference!

+100 on the impellers. Especially changing them both at the same time. If for some reason time is a factor at least change the one that's two years old before you make the trip. Having one on board is great but it's better to avoid the whole mishap altogether.

Gorgeous boat by the way, love the helm on the classics.

that is a very nice boat you picked up !

I am super jealous.

So where can I find part numbers for thease impellers, or are they all the same for merc 454s? Any recommendations on where to buy from?

Nice boat we bought ours last Aug. and we love it. You will have no regrets and those kids will be safe. Saverio I think he was asking about props. Welcome aboard.
