I new that title would get attention

I just got back from having 3 snaps replaced on my cockpit cover that is basically new. Yes, I will be more careful and yes I bought the tool. I learned.

My question is that I read in a boat magazine that dobbing chapstick on the snaps is good and needed lubrication. Is this a good idea? Do you lubricate your snaps ? (I had trouble keeping a straight face when I typed that, whew).

If so, what do you use?

Thanks,

Yes, Chap-stick is easy, you can dab petroleum jelly with a q-tip also.
Limits corrosion and keeps the little springy thingy inside from freezing up.

Chap stick works fine. There is also a procuct called "Snap-Stick". I cant tell the difference in feeling the two. Never tried Snap-Stick on my lips though. Starbrite makes a white teflon snap and zipper lube. Never tried it. For the money, chap-stick is the way to go.

I have like 5 things of snap-stick all free not sure how it happened, found a free prop annode too, anyways my boat came with a couple and then the "Snap-Stick" company had a survey I filled out and got some more. Works great on snaps and zippers. (on the boat I've not tried it on my pants)

After you guys LUBED ur snaps . Did u find that they were more prone to PREMATURE release ? Case and point ... I umm LUBED my snaps but now on VERY windy days my snaps start to PREMATURELY release. I want them to RELEASE when I want them too....

A plain old white wax candle works just as good as anything else listed here. Chapstick was a little too soft and held dirt. The snap stick is harder, like candle wax almost. Plus, my wife has about a zillion candles laying around the house.
