Ok, All I want is to buy some snap in carpet like the AquaMat. I need a 8 foot by 7 foot piece. Cut it just the way I want it, take it somewere and get it binded and i'll put my snaps in it, And it shouldn't cost 500 to 600 dollars to do. Nobody want to sell just the carpet. They want to whole job. Must be there's no money in selling just the carpet.

We do not sell cut goods of the AquaLoc-backed carpet at a retail level, only finished and bound mats. The thick vinyl backing needs to be professionally bound with a heavy duty sewing maching. If you can provide me with a zip code for your area, I can find you a partner upholstery shop that can order just the carpet and then cut and bind a mat for you. It should also be noted that the AquaLoc carpet only comes in 12' wide goods, so your local upholstery shop would need to order a 12' x 7' cut of carpet. Thanks!

How much do you expect to save by trying to do it this way? I think Corinthian prices are very much in line.

A related question. I have the orginal carpet for my swim platform. it has the rubber backing. it looks great. The problem is that when it gets wet it takes too long to dry out (e.g. days). I was thinking of replacing it but did not want to spend too much. It measures about 3' x 10'. Corinthian wanted ~$280. They said it would not retain as much water. But the cost is too high and I am not feeling confoirtable that the water absorpion will be less. Just an fyi..

The only way to really get it to dry quickly is to hang it - for example, over the transom locker. Once the carpet is vertical (or close to it), the water will drain out very quickly.

Yup, Lazy Daze is correct. Hang drying the carpet is the best method to dry it out. Carpet is carpet and if it gets wet, it's going to retain water. The vinyl ribbed AquaLoc backing itself should not retain water though.

Wait.............

Corinthian is also the OEM supplier for one or more competition ski boats. They have a noncarpet mat that would do a great job on a swim platform if the colors work. The sample I saw was a solid mat that was soft yet would not absorb water.

Warning! Do not hang the carpet over your marine vinyl! If the rubber backing side is down it will stain your vinyl! I know from experience... :smt021

The newer stuff has a vinyl, rib-like backing and shouldn't do that. But good point, none the less. Best not to tempt fate.

Just trying to save what I can. Local guy want about 500-600 for the job. That's the good carpet the don't hold the water in and does not of the rubber back...ect. I don't think it's aquamat but seen the samples. It seemed like nice stuff.
I aready email Nick at Corinthian. Closes place is The Nautical Needle in Holland, MI I have not called them yet, but it they have to buy in 12 foot width. Won't come cheap either.

Have you tried John at Snap in Carpet out of Niles Michigan? Maybe he has some leftover laying around he wouldn't mind getting rid of. I actually can't imagine that he would be more than 5/600 for an 8x7 piece cut and bound for you.

Let him know Ray Bock from New Buffalo told you to give him a try.

I also know Wolfs in Benton Harbor has a roll of it for pretty cheap that they will cut from to your desired size.

Snap-in in Michigan is the way to go. Period!

Here is a carpet sample of some outdoor carpet with wolven back to let the water through. I don't know how much is it yet, but it is from one of the suppliers that for my wife's house building company, so it can't be to bad. When I get done it will be and L shape piece for the back part of the cockpit and a small piece for the the floor of the driving helm. An 7 foot by 8 foot piece will do it all. The carpet company said they can bind it. This is the color the wife picked out. What do you think?

Every boat I have seen with carpet like that, the carpet is usually ruined in a year or two leaving all kinds of grit all over the deck. You will think its sand at first but its the carpet backing.
