Sorry ifthishas been asked before..my holding tank/hot water,,"smells" not good..best way to deoderize/clean all ,,Thanks..04/260sd:huh:

I flush my water system 3 times with bleach each year.
I don't drink any of water from the boat. That what works for me. :smt001

Good link. above.

I'm not near my manuals to give your the specifics, but if you are... look in your water heater's manual (or get it online). It gives you a step by step. If I remember correctly, I only used white vinegar (no bleach) as per the manual. However, that's not to say that there is only one way to skin a cat. 99 times out of 100 the problem will be in the water heater, not the fresh water holding tank.

Start by draining the entire system (cold and hot) through the hot water tank until everything is empty.

After flushing with a little bleach overnight, I use 1/2 small bottle of spearmint extract used for cooking/baking.

I can't remember the ratio right now, but you put in a small amount of bleach, fill the tank, run every faucet on both hot and cold until it's coming out with bleach, let sit over night, then use it to wash your plastic coffee cups. Drain it all out, re-fill, drain it out, then re-fill and use it normally.

In order to rinse the hot water heater, you should probably run out at least 6 gallons of hot water before letting it sit over night. Be sure to use your hot water, even in Summer. You don't want that water to go stale.

It seems like it's one once per 5 gallons or something like that.

Thats also what they told us to do at M.M. and don't drink the water....

I had same problem...I had a kind of "onion" smell in my water. I tried those tablets you can buy at camping stores, but they don't seem to work as well as a little bit of clorox added when I fill my tank. We don't really use the water much...just for the terlet and brushing the teeth. We don't drink it.

yep a cap full of bleach and table spoon of baking soda. Fill water tank half way...take a ride and slosh it around. Flush by opening all taps. re-fill and flush again.

Bleach in the beginning of the season mentioned and then - we use our shower which empties the tank each weekend and keeps the water fresh. We don't have issues with our water. I always use the tank instead of the hose direct hookup.

Don't over do it. I figured one gallon of bleach would thoroughly disinfect a 40 gallon system.

NOPE!!

Based on what I had to do to get the smell and taste out; a gallon of bleach would thoroughly disinfect about a 300 gallon system and countless ice cubes. :smt013

A boating ignosecond if I have ever had one! :smt021

This was posted elsewhere and I used it to clean mine after 2 years(That I know of and probably more) sitting with water sloshing in the bottom of the tank.

Look at this

Peggy's the BOMB and has been for years! Pay attention, or pay someone else to fix it for you.
And to add to her last line, use a BIG filter on the fill hose when filling your tank. Then USE IT! if you can't, PURGE IT

In Peggy's first line of instruction she mentions using 3/4dl to 10 liters of holding tank capacity. Can someone post the US coversion of oz and gallons? It was easy to convert the liters to gallons but I'm not finding the dl conversion.

1 deciliter = .1 liter. So, .75dl = .075 liter.
