This is from SmartCraft directly:

System Fault...
Engine Sensor...
Trim position sensor is not working properly...

It happens typically within 5 minutes or less of starting the engine. The trim gauge in smartcraft (digital) changes when trimming up 0 - 1 etc. also the analog gauge works.

The dealer tells me there may not be a sensor this is why I am getting the error. Any suggestions?

You may have a broken or loose wire on the trim sensor or trim limit switch.

With Smartcraft, the analog gauge is controlled by Smartcraft, not directly by the trim position sensor.

Check your Smartcraft manual. You can recalibrate the trim position by following the instructions.

Mine does the same. beeps within a few minutes of starting, then also seems to beep when trim is all the way down.

I don't understand what the dealer is saying??
If it works for a few minutes then quits, then obviously there is a sensor. I had similar issues twice - once was the rheostat in the trim sender needed changed - they are just a variable resistance disk and tend to go bad over time. On my other boat, the transom assembly was overheating and caused an intermittent short once it got hot.
