Hello all
Purchased a 2008 Sea Ray 240 Sundancer 4 weeks ago, great boat always kept in garage 135 hrs and all mechanical reports were complimentary regarding the servicing and maintenance. Now that we have had the boat in a pen for 4 weeks I have noticed a small amount of water on the floor under he mattress in the bunk under the stairs. The water appears to be seeping in between the back wall and floor and appears to be rain water not salt which is good. The most obvious solution I can come up with is its coming in via the Aerial or satellite mount. Cables all have loops could be coming in between the mount and the side of the boat. My question is simple has anyone else experienced a similar problem, could there be another common cause? I would really appreciate any information before I start looking further for the source

Not sure with the layout of your boat, but I know on the 400 Sundancer it was common to have water there because of a split in the water tank which was L shaped and located under the rear bunk.

Good luck.

Pete

Welcome to the forum. I know there's an extensive thread in here somewhere regarding you problem but I've quick searched it and can not find it. Try looking for the "official 240 DA" thread. I'll spend some more time on it after work if nobody else has responded. Good luck.

Edit: Try this search phrase on google, site:clubsearay.com official 240 DA

Thanks Pete
The water tank did cross my mind, I have been advised there is some history and a thread does exit. I will have a look and see what I can find

Hi Chris
Thank for you response, no luck yet, at least I know I am in the right place. Received one piece of advice that it could be the fresh water tank. I will source th plans and see if this makes sense
Thanks again for your assistance

Dean,

We had the same problem with our 260; rear bunk mattress kept getting wet on the port side. After considerable research in hopes of finding an easy fix I ended up disassembling the aft cabin on that side. I had to dry it out completely and then keep an eye on it until the water returned, and then follow the water to it's source. It turned out to be rain water finding it's way from the cockpit, through a scupper that the hose had fallen off, to the rear port side of the berth. I'd still be looking if I hadn't started tracing it back from where it was wet. I find that with most leaks on boats; trace it backwards instead of trying to second guess where it's coming from. Good luck.

Thanks again Chris, I am heading to the boat this weekend, we have had a dry week so I am pretty confident if water is present, it is unlikely to be rain and more possible to be the water tank or other. Good advice regarding tracking the water backwards to the source. Regards Den

WeekendatBernies :0) Pick up some spray foot powder on your way. Might sound stupid, but when you get everything dried up and the necessary panels removed, you spray the powder leaving a nice white residue that will show water tracks like nobodies business. We have some leaking around the V-Berth on our 380DA, and I found it is coming from the bloody deck rails. It is amazing how water can track and siphon. On our C36 sail boat the V-Berth would get water below the cushion in heavy weather, and SOMETIMES in bad rain (but not always). Turned out to be tracking from the anchor locker along the wiring for the RED/GREEN bow lamp. If we were taking water on deck, you could fill a bucket with the bailing sponge. The leak was just a pin-hole, but when it got a constant supply of water it started a siphon. Good Luck!
