small outboard

I have the Honda 2hp, 4 stroke, air cooled engine and it is so light it can be used as a weed wacker around the docks or also as a blender.

I have the mercury 2.5hp 4 stroke on my 7' dinghy. seems ok to me. I leave it on the dinghy and pull the dinghy up on the swim platform and tie it down. It runs all day on 1/2 gallon of gas but not at great speeds. it's a little heavy but I can manage with no problem. You can store it on one side, but not the other.

It really makes overnighting on the hook a ton of fun. but two people and a small dog and you are maxed out.

Oh and the silence of the 4 stroke will allow me to sneak up and toilet paper Four Suns when he passes through the sound.

I have a 9.5' Hypalon dinghy and a Yamaha 2-stroke 8HP. It only weighs 65 pounds. I can plane with two adults. Noise isn't a problem. You can hear it, but it's never uncomfortable. You don't have to yell over it. 2-strokes are lighter, don't hold oil, and can be layed down.

I saw these torqeedo motors on line I think a read thatthe weight was in the 20 of lbs but run time was limited to 1.5 hours. This seems a little to low for my needs.

Notice how easy it is for me to buzz the Four Suns in my gas Dinghy without him even noticing.

I think the best bet would be a nice inflatable and a couple of twin 2 HP's on the back. Better manuverability, the ability to get home if one engine fails, etc., :)

ok, someone please 'splain to me how to get things moving in a picture. first the tongue, now the dink. i have a lot of time on my hand too and i like to learn!

You're not listening to Gary, and he doesn't need two dinks surrounding him

I use photoshop and image ready from adobe on a mac. needless to say it takes a lot of time to get my realistic high quality images of Gary's Gene Simons like tongue movements. Took me a long time to get that Awesome Dinghy buzz by.

Basically it's an animated Gif, you edit a photo and then place each photo as a frame, you then export those frames as animated Gif's.

My next one will be my claim to fame. stay tuned.

Mike,

There is no wake jumping on CSR, please give way to the diesel vessel. :smt043

Have any of you considered the 2HP Torqeedo 801 folding electric motor? Expensive yes, but an interesting alternative to gas outboards.

A low budget alternative is an electric trolling motor + marine battery. If you only plan on going about 3 MPH you can do this on a $250 budget. Want more range? Up the size of the marine battery until you get the range you want. Want more speed? Up the thrust rating of the motor.

This will not be the set up for the bigger boats that want to ski behind a dingy.

However for us in smaller express cruisers where we need to save space, a small, air bottomed dingy and small electric motor + small deep cycle battery is a compact, economical, gasoline free alternative.

Finally, for the simplest of all, consider the tried and true oars. Nothing wrong with human power.
