Slow No Wake Zone

The other thing you can do is take one engine out of gear and turn your wheel to compensate for the "in gear" engine pushing you its natural way. That should take your wake to bare minimum. I have a friend with a 400DB with diesels and we had to do that everytime through specific no wake zone that were frequented by many beachers.

"'Idle Speed' or 'Slow, No Wake Speed' . . . . 'Idle speed' means the slowest possible speed, not to exceed five miles per hour, so as to maintain steerage and produce minimal wake."
My GPS says idle is 5.8 MPH. Think the police would give me a ticket for .8 MPH???

If you are going to get that pissed you shouldn't live on the water. I could see yelling at a PWC zipping by at full speed but not at what you describe. I'm certain he has control issues more than a concern that your small wake had any negative consequences. I approached our yacht club on plane and inadvertently passed the no wake zone sign before I slowed by about 20 feet. A guy in a 70ft plus boat came to his stern and screamed at me like there was no tomorrow. He was far enough away that my wake barely effected him if at all. I turned my boat back and approached and apologized and informed him it was purely unintentional and by no means my normal boating practice. He continued to yell and refused to accept my apology. I shrugged my shoulders and idled away. Bottom line - some people are miserable and always will be.

I have a similar situation with idle speed, she does 6 mph at idle so I found that if I run one motor in gear and turn the response of the auto pilot up to 8-9 I can steer using the AP. And thus not creating a wake. My approach to the marina is long and wide with multiple moored and slipped boats so it works for me.

I got pulled over in Barnaget Bay, NJ for creating a wake in a channel. Saw the No Wake buoy at the last second and slowed down. Not in time for the local Patrol, so they pulled me over on their Jet Skis. As one of them attempted to board my boat, he fell in! All we saw was a hand holding a radio up out of the water. We thought we were dead meat when he surfaced, but he saw his partner, on the other jet ski, laughing uncontrollably and smiled at us. No ticket, just a safety inspection. This happened right in front of the Barnegat Boat Club, where everyone outside stood up and applauded.
I usually do drop it out of gear when passing a kayak or other smaller vessel in a no wake zone, otherwise, just idle along.

I wonder why everyone applauded when the "revenuer" fell in the water?

I had some large boat in Grand Haven go by me too fast and damaged my Boat. Nobody else caused my boat to go down two feet and back up that and then some. Still today I would like to kick that persons but and that happen 6 years ago.

But I have also had people tell me to slow down and I look back and wonder, what the f are they ***** about.
