I"m thinking about boat slipping this year. Looking at a slip in Lake Shore Harbour in Muskegon, MI Anything I should know before I go this route? Never had a slip before,

Start with bottom paint if you don't have it.

Be ready to enjoy your boat a whole lot more without the hassle of trailering.

When is the last time your bellows were replaced?

Lots of people on trailer boats extend the life of their bellows far beyond what they should. A small leak may not be obvious on a boat that only spends hours in the water. That same small leak could be catastrophic on a boat that is wet slipped.

Other than that, make sure your anodes are correct for your water type and properly installed. Make sure your bilge pumps and float switches are operational. I like to fill the hull with a garden hose in the spring to actually test the float switches. Touch up your bottom paint, and enjoy!

Its nice having a slip, Show up and go or just be a dock queen and drink with your new marina friends.

I'd never go back to a trailer!!! You will enjoy the boat soooo much more. Show up, start it up ,,,and goooooooo!!!!!!
zincs and bottom paint,

Agree with all of the above! Slip is the way to go!!

Working on a slip right not, just worried about the four foot drop to the boat. My not work out so good for my kid's, mom and dad and grandparents.

When someone new comes to the marina we advise them to come back at low tide and take a good look around. It helps for them to see the mud flats and the tight maneuvering. They all did it for me and continue to do it to this day. I do agree to a dock ladder 4' is a pretty good drop

Fixed docks all over Lake Michigan are going to be an issue this year with the low water.
Consider floating docks to get around the drop from fixed docks. Great Lakes, Pigeon Key (by Dockers restaurant) and Terrace Point Marina in Muskegon all should have a floating 30' slip for you.
We are moving to a 50' floating dock slip at Terrace Point this year (were in Grand Haven the last 7 years on a floating dock). You will like the access a floating dock provides. Have a great season!

Make sure your battery charges work and your shore power chord is good. Extra wax is a must. Waterproof your canvas (if required). Get a dock box and Enjoy!

When I went from 23ft to 27/29ft.....I wanted a boat to leave in the water. Bottom paint and annodes are real important in fresh water with shore power attached. We just added shore power to our floating docks three years a go....what a luxury! We only trailer for vacation trips now. You'll love it at a good Marina. A bad Marina could be a nightmare!
