I'd like some honest input on a sign we're asking a local sign maker, aplusgraphics.com to quote us.
Doug, "GoAweighTo2452" has used him and his quality seems high.
I haven't taken all of the dimensions he will need but I'm looking for your opinions.

This will be our 3rd Nehalennia, our last boat obviously Nehalennia II.
I wanted to simpify our calling on the radio so I will name her Nehalennia, and the triangle is the Scandinavian Rune symbol for 3.

Nehalennia is the Celtic Goddess of the seafarers represented by dolphins, my Admiral's favorite animal

Looks nice....Only thing I see is that the "Marysville Washington" looks like two seperate beings.....Tough to describe, perhaps loos the little designs off the side of both words and put them in the middle on the side of both words (one set)....

Loks good though, wish I was creative as we still need a name

I like the sign alot. I agree with weave the only thing I would consider doing is putting Marysville on the same line as Washington, so that you only have the one line underneath. Maybe
"Marysville, WA"

My Wife thought the same think. I'll play with it a little.

Thanks Mike
that shouldn't look too bad

does this look better?

or I think I like it darker

If your boat is going to be documented (sometimes banks require that if you finance it and the boat has to be over 10,000 pounds), then you need to follow the hailing port guidelines from the USCG. I don't think what you have will work. But then again, I don't know what the boat weighs...

UPDATE: So I went and looked and you can't document the boat... so ignore this babble.

Start a new thread and we can help you find your name. Tell us what Weave is and anything else that you like, associate with and may make good boat name

I have documented all my boats including the 260DA. The min weight limit was ~5500 I thought.

Researched a bit further and found this:

"A vessel must measure at least five net tons and, with the exception of certain oil spill response vessels, must be wholly owned by a citizen of the U.S"

"Net tonnage is a measure of a vessel's volume. It should not be confused with the vessel's weight, which may also be expressed in tons. Most vessels more than 25 feet in length will measure five net tons or more."

I thought it was 5 tons.... I am by no means an expert as the 480 is the first boat I have documented. Of course that is probably the USCG's definition of displacement which is not the boat's weight for some reason. They say my boat has a gross tonage of 41 tons... yeah... right...

Todd,

Looks great, I agree I like the name on one line, what about making the dolphins a little smaller and having three of them? Just an idea, to me I would get that more than the triangle. Either way looks great. Congratulations again.

Wesley

on a local site I'm on I have also asked for suggestions.
The owner of the site is the same guy who will make the sign.
we may be incorporating

What about a cool Celtic knot. They're something most can identify with?

NEHALENNIA%20-%20Rev01.jpg

We will change the font back to my original font but was playing with the Celtic Knot.

also here is the story of how Nehalennia was named:
Nehalennia's name came from a medallioin necklace nearly identical to the one Above.
When my wife and I were dating I took her to dinner at Duke's at Lake Union. While we waited for a table we went accross the small shopping area there and we saw that medallion on the jewlery store there. My wife has a ying yang dolphin tatoo in honor of her mother. When we saw the medallion it spoke to her. On the description it tells about Nehalennia being the "Celtic goddess of the Seafarers" . I hadn't named the boat yet and since then it seemed perfect for us.

still working on the detail, but this is close

We'll try and get to lay the name over the knot without the big block out

Are you ditching the dolphins?

I like the knot, but it's a bit busy, maybe make it a bit lighter color and the boat name darker?

I was going to suggest the boat name in the middle of a circle of 3 dolphins. maybe forget the knot and triangle altogether.

I also like the city/state on one line, too.

yeah I see that is is quite busy. I need the triangle for the "3" theme, but may go back to the simpler one and get the dolphins back. I do like the font though

Well Here's the final draft,
This is what we are going with. Thanks for the input.

Todd,

Now that you've figured out the design, I would ask what kind of vinyl is going to be used. (I'm in the sign/digital printing business 15yrs now) 3M is the best, will last the longest, and won't leave glue residue when removed. It needs to be a 2mil Cast (High Performance) 3M vinyl. They also (3M) make a great reflective vinyl which is really cool at night.

We've been partnering with 3M from the beginning and have been wrapping a lot of boats in the fishing and go fast area..Here's one we did using art from a well known artist Carey Chen, and we are also the official printer for Guy Harvey Designs and so some pretty cool stuff with him.

Good luck..
Barry

Hi Barry
Those graphics are amazing(somewhat small pic but amazing).
I will ask the local guy I am having do them and make sure that he uses high quality graphics.
Thanks for the input

Todd,

Looks good, still not sure why two dolphins instead of three but it is a nice none the less. It will look great on the 260!!!
